First road/tri bike
I'm a MTB guy who rides a Trance and I have recently been talked into tackling some triathlons so I'm reaching out to someone who knows more about it than I do. I've put myself on a budget because I'm just getting into road biking for the tri's. I'm looking for something at the starter level at around $500-$600. I know this won't get me much but I'm just looking for something to get me around that can be converted to an everyday commuter in about a year and a half when I start college (again). I welcome all advice but if your advice is to spend more then you are wasting your time, I'm not going to.

Any good roadbike will be fine on a triathlon. In fact, check the Road Cycling forum for the "Under $750 Road Bike" thread for lots of ideas.
Also you can just put some slick tires on your mountain bike. Alot of "casual" triathletes do that and do just fine.
