No swimming for 2 weeks...+20secs?!
I've been moving house and travelling for the last 2 weeks and haven't gotten into a pool for that much time. This morning I finally locatred a new local pool and was horrified to find that my "fastest" 100m time went from about 1:40 to 2:00! Is this normal? Has anyone else had this kind of drastic detraining occur? If I had known I'd lose it like this I might have paid more attention.
Needless to say I'm completely freaked out!
That's a little more time that I would expect you to lose during that time, but of course your best on any given day can vary considerably depending on all sorts of factors, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. Also, I suspect you'll gain that time back pretty quickly (within 2-3 weeks). My swim coach in high school used to say it takes two days of practice to make up for each one missed, but I'm pretty sure that was an exaggeration for purposes of motivation.
