Iron Man and Women in Loisville, wow, you folks are good....

Well, I really have a great appreciation for any of those who entered this event and all of you long distance riders....

I broke down and bought my bicycle for road use Saturday morning, i decided to get the fuji cross pro.

I had the crank switched out to a compact 50/34 and the cassett switched to a 12-27, then purchased the wheel set that came on thier team road bike I road.

So yesterday i got up and decided to go for a ride, it was early, not too early but i think i hit the road around 9 am, so off i went to conquer the hill that I feel over on the first time i tried to ride the cross bike up it.

So off I go moving along pretty good, feeling so good and knowing that the iron man folks would be out and about, I decided to go out onto highway 42, So here I am the road blocked off with pylons having the whole road to myself.... As I am heading into their starting?mount location they are heading out for their ride to Lagrange.... So I am moving along still feeling preety good, spectators are cheering for them going out and me going in, wow what a cool feeling!!!! So I am buzzing along and I guess people are thinking that i am a participent in the contest, so they are telling me good job etc, wow that just motivated me more to continue on, so I just kept on rideing to thier starting point, once their I slowed and just turned around and headed back out on the same path they were taking....

As I looked behind me i could see a rider gaining on me and it motivated me to keep going, wow this was fun... I talked to a few of the Iron Man contestants that day before in the local bike shops, they were getting their bikes tuned up and buying fuel etc....

So As I am riding out river road toward hwy 42 I was able to maintain the distance that I had on the person riding behind me, every time they closed the gap It would motivate me to ride better, really focusing on the hills and grades trying to pedal through the top of the hills and then down the other side, then go to a easier gear and just try to maintain my pace. This went on for about 16 miles and then as I was reaching the point where i would turn off onto Goshen Lane, I missed my shift to the big chain ring and bam they were there, I could already tell that the person was a better climber than I as the distance between us was closing, and I would usually hit the big ring and pedal away, but not this time so although I felt great that i was able to maintain my gap for that long, maybe i helped them maybe i hurt them, I do not know, but I know they had a long hilly ride ahead of them... So as the Iron women passed me, i have to take my hat off to all of her, wow what shape and level of commitment you have to have to try sometihng like this...

BTW, their was another rider that came out of know where, and was on me like the sanp of your finger...
I can only think that he must have been the one fixing a flat, as I did pass about two or three riders in that 30+ mile ride that were fixing flats on the side of the road....

Well it was fun and only motivates me more to continue riding, I really thought about riding out to Lagrange and back and thus doing the 112+ ride that they were doing, but I just didn't think on water alone, I would be able to and my back was starting to hurt a little bit.....

Next up, some aero bars, as I think those would help on long rides and let you stretch out a bit......

    IM2008 in KY

Wow, that will be some feat. I wish you the best, find some hills because this ride they did was all rolling hills.....

If they have it in the same spot, you'll just have to be careful as I heard one rider was struck on hwy42...

pretty bad I hear, but not life threatening....

I guess the cyclist may have had his or her head down and riding along or the cage driver just pulled out in front of them anyway....

really wasn't alot about this on the news....

one day maybe folks will pay attention to us on the two wheel bicycles and motorcycles....

They just had a big event ride, placing share the road signs up, since someone on a bicycle was hit and killed a while back going over the small bridge into IN.....

Is the IMKY the same thing as IM: Louisville?
