What kind of swim suits do you guys use? Speedo...wetsuit..

RiPHRaPH 08-06-03 04:20 AM

it depends on your location. many tri's in sept in the midwest requires at least a 4 mil wetsuit. it keeps you afloat though.

my wife outlawed speedo for me when i met her.

i have a full length wetsuit to use if i need it. as far as swimsuits go, i wear tri shorts. no speedos for me, but there are a lot of guys out there who do wear them. tri shorts are just basically thinner bike shorts with a much, much thinner chamois in them.

multisport4life - do you do the whole race in them? Do they get uncomfortable during the run?

I use the tri shorts as well. Yes you do the whole race in them. They dont get uncomfortable on the run at all. They dont bunch up or anything like that and there is no chafing. The padding, even as little as it is, definetly helps on the bike.

I use tri shorts throughout the race and they are great they don't soak up the water and have a fair amount of padding and no bunch up on the run. they are worth the price. As far as wetsuits go I wear a Orca sleeveless the best part about it is the extra float it gives you that and helps keep you warmer.

I've not used a wet suit, however I just started using tri-shorts which are designed for all three segments of the race. They are a cross between riding shorts and swim jammers. Just a little padding that dries out quickly while on the bike and is comfortable to run in.

Mine came from Titan Wear at www.titanwear.com. They are called "Titan Racing Short (unisex) w/ gripper legs"

I'm pleased with them and they are reasonably priced.

Sorry I didn't get back to this very quickly. I wear DeSoto tri shorts throughout the race. In the two triathlons I have done I didn't wear a top on the bike, nor did I wear gloves. Then on the run I pulled on a singlet that had my number pinned on already. I did wear socks though. Some people go without but my feet are too sensitive for that. My wetsuit is also an Orca and the extra 'float' you get is great. It is more cumbersome to transition to the bike though when you have to take it off. I'd say it is worth using when they are allowed unless you are a really good swimmer. The sleeveless is probably the best bet because mine restricts my stroke a little bit with the arms.

I have titanwear shorts too, but bought them without the gripper legs. It's nice they have that option. My only complaint is that the waist is cut straight across so that they bunch up in the front when you're on the bike.

Oh, and they're too shiny. But that's more of a Fred v. Fabio fashion complaint. ;)

Caloso,

I really didn't notice this until you mentioned it. Having the waist cut straight is a little annoying and also makes the back waist lower while riding. A lot different from a true bike short. These are minor annoyances when compared with pure bike shorts but after a few minutes you don't think about them.

Now I typically only ride in my tri shorts unless I'm going on a very long ride. They are comfortable to ride, run and swim in.
