I'm looking to do a few Tris next year, mostly of sprint and 1 oly, and i'm looking for some clip on bars for a road bike. I'm fairly comfortable riding 5-10mi with my forearms on the tops. I know its not the safest practice but I primarily ride a R2T by my house with very little traffic or other users.

my current bike is a Trek 1000 w/ non-oversize bars. I really don't want to spend a whole lot as I don't know if i'll like the new positioning, new pains, etc... None of my local shops carry tri gear so its all online ordering.

Any advice?

+Jammers (shorty bars) are the cheapest way to try out the aero position for beginning triathletes.

eBay. I picked up a set of older Profile Century's to try out for $12 shipped.

I got Profile Design T2+ and I'm happy with them. They also have a lighter carbon version now.

Been trying to do this myself. Since a road bike is more stretched out than a tri bike, I'd think a clipon that let u extent the elbows' pad position behind the main bar would be desirable, not too far as to interfere with out-of-saddle position.

I bought a pair of Profile T2+ too, 'coz they are affordable, looks sharp and adjustable as described. Last week on my first time out with it, I had it too close together 'coz I needed to clamp them down on the meaty part of my 26mm bar, that proved to be uncomfortable. Today, I was successful pulled them apart by about 1.2" and see how it goes my next ride.

Still dunno though, feels like when in aero position needs to have an bar end shifter, and that's just too much work and $ for the conversion of my 15 yrs old bike. Will see.

I recently put Forte T2 on my Trek 1000. Pretty good so far and they are cheap.

First thing you'll want to do si get the shortest bar stem you can I used a Profile H2O, then move the seat as far forward as it will go, not perfect but it will feel much better.
