I am a triathlete in training.
I am training to do my first triathlon in June of 2004. I am in need of a road bike, and am wondering what a good one is for a beginner? I don't want to spend too much money right now on a bike, but want a bike that will be good and last. Any ideas, advice?
Great forum here, lots of usefull information and advice about triathlons, which I like.

Congratulations and good luck with your race!
My advice is to first think about all of the things you might like to do on this bike. Obviously triathlon is one. But might you want to ride centuries on it? What about double centuries and longer? Would you commute to work on it? Ride supported tours? Ride lightly loaded tours? Ride heavily loaded tours? What about group rides? Road races? Criteriums? Hill climb races?
Then go to your local bike shops (preferably ones experienced in setting up triathletes) and tell them what you wanna do with it. They should be able to point you to the models they carry that best fit your intended uses.
