    am i being ocd???

    got some minor scratches(not through the paint, just through the finish) on my new cervelo p2c ultegra.

    should i try and fix?(if so, how?)

    or should i just let it go?

    let me now your thoughts

    Meguiars ScratchX should round off the edges of the scratches and make them less noticable. Get some pictures up and I will try and give you an idea of what you might be able to do. Without piccies it's difficult to assess the problem.

    Don't do anything silly (wire wool, sandpaper, filing) just yet.

    yes you are being ocd. If you're cool with that, go ahead and do what Barchettaman wrote. Then you can buy some clear nail polish to restore the clear coat. Don't forget the buff and wax! lol

    I have the same bike, did the same thing. Brought it home with scratches, and one good paint chip. I've been looking for some time for a paint match for the silver, tough to do, these bikes are painted in China or Taiwain I think and Cervelo has no color match they can offer here. Tom Demerly of Bike Sport Michigan gave me some Testor's Model Master colors that seemed to match better than most. Steel was one I think, I'll check if you would like.

    Here is a thread they answered for me in the mech forum about how to touch up and then smooth down a rough spot. I'm pretty particular about keeping up the bike, and this would be an in depth process. I try to live with a "flaw" for awhile, to see if I'll forger about it. In any case, this fellow covers painting, sanding, and even finishing.

    Paint touch up..sanding cf frame?

    As the above poster asked though, do you have pics?

    Plainsman's thread link gives some good advice, however, you have to recall that Plainsman himself was initially complaining about scratches in the rear cutout, and was told over at Slowtwitch to fix it only if he could see it while riding (i.e. with the wheel on). Ha, just some good natured ribbing here. But when he says he's trying to see if he can forget about it, not sure I believe he can do it. :-)

    (and this coming from a guy who totaled his 2008 P2C Dura Ace three weeks ago avoiding a car who turned without warning right in front of me from the oncoming lane, so from where I sit a few scratches to your "baby" aren't too bad. I'm fu*ked up pretty bad, but I now am waiting for insurance dispute to clear before replacing my baby).

    Ouch good Senator, that's hitting too close to home! But true I fear, if I had actually forgotten about the scratches, would I have remembered my obscure little thread in the mech forum? Likely not. Perhaps it's more of a battle of wills, which will prevail - my lazy/overly cautious side (i.e. don't touch it, you'll make it worse!) or my alter-ocd ego? Only time, and the expiration date on my bottle of Testor's enamel will tell!

    Not to hijack, but how is your recovery coming? - good to see you still have your sense of humor.

    Slow, but good. Thanks for asking. The lady's insurance adjuster is coming on Tuesday to take my statement and look at the bike. With any luck they won't give me too much trouble and I can get started building up the 2008 frame I found locally. It's going to be another 8-10 weeks before they will let me pedal a bike in anger on the real road.

    Today, I did the recumbent. Got a lot of looks at the gym with my two casts and sling. On the bike, I decided to make some t-shirts that say:

    HTFU on the front

    and

    It's not supposed to be easy on the back.
