I lack pool access.. If I work out and do push ups will that help my swim....I have no way to get into a pool...

I have never found anything that is the same as actual swimming. Just like nothing is the same as actually running outside, or biking outside.

Anaerobic training will not offer much help for your swim. Core training will help a little, but technique is the most important part by far. Seek out water.

As flip18436572 said, there's really no subsitute for actually getting into the water. Even if you have to drive an hour or so getting in once a week will be much better than any other exercise. That being said there are a number of dryland excercises that competitive swimmers routinely do. Here is a link https://swimming.about.com/cs/dryland...wim_weight.htm that describes some of them. Most public libraries have, or can get, books on coaching swimming which include dryland exercises.
