vintage Ciocc vs. Trek 2300?
There's a 2002 Trek 2300 for sale locally, for what seems like a decent price, and it is a size that would fit me. It's very tempting, but the intended use is for finishing the Full Vineman triathlon next August. Would an aluminum frame be a bad choice for a guy who will be 47 next summer?
The bike I've been planning on using is an '84 Ciocc that belonged to my late brother-in-law. I really love riding this bike, and I was planning on fitting it with aero bars and bar-end shifters for the race, and putting it back to stock (Dura-Ace downtube shifters) after the race.
My suspicion is that I'd like the Trek for shorter rides, but that a 114 mile ride, even with the carbon fork, will just wear me out.
Thoughts?
