Broken spoke question
I am looking at buying a used bike thats only issue seems to be a broken spoke on the rear wheel The owner hit a rail road track and one spoke popped.
My question is how hard and expensive is that to fix - generally? Would I be better off just getting a new wheel?
The bike is a 2001 Trek 1000 with 700's (I think).
It usually is VERY easy and VERY cheap. Spokes generally run less than $1 each (unless they are special, aero, etc). But if it popped due to an impact, make sure the rim is in good shape too.
A shop should be able to replace a spoke and true the wheel for $20-25
Thanks a lot. That confirms the info I got at lunch from one of the local bike shops. They said about $30 bucks if one was damaged. If more are damaged or if the frame is bent than I might want to consider a new wheel.
