Swimming (is this good?)
I just started swimming about 7weeks ago. I thought it was going to be easy.I was naive. It was really hard!!!7 weeks ago I could barely swim 100meters 10 times in 50min. I have no formal training my parents just took us to the pool and ocean for fun .I've worked my way up to 34 100meter lenghths. thats 68 times back and forth in 50min time.I swim twice a week and all I have for time is 50min.So my question is how am I doing ? I have nothing to judge by.I might swim a 1.7mile save the bay swim in july. Do you think I'll be able to do it?By then I won't be training for a bike tour that I do every june and I might be able to add one more day of swimming on.
Later,
Robin

Hey, great job! Maybe you should try doing some 500s as well. Just like running and cycling it is a good idea to do different workouts, sprint, distance, drills.

Swimming's great, but like cycling is low impact. I've read where cyclists should include some high impact aerobics (like running) to ward off bone deterioration.

What are 500's? Right now I just have been concentrating on getting my stroke down. I started doing 10 laps back to back .Then I worked my way up gradually to doing 20 laps back to back. It usually takes me 10 laps to warm up and then I can keep going pretty good. It's just like biking in a way it takes me about 10miles to warm up on the road to.I never use a kick board should I do that to?

It may have been DenvrFox's post where I read this.
My daughter likes to run so I may take it up again, gingerly, for just a few miles.
It sounds like may be skeptical of this new finding. I am too somewhat, but I enjoy running and can probably do it w/o injury if I can just not make it an obsession.

I know what you mean about obesesions.Probally most of us who get in to sports get ocd.I do I was taking walks at night after dinner for an extra calorie burn.It was supposed to be just an leisurely wallk. Then after it got to easy I would say to my self "just run to the next stop sign" .My leisurely walk was turing into a not so leisurely walk! Sometimes you allways have that drive to push harder at least I do.Then it can turn what was fun into work.I have to watch myself on that.
Have a good day,
Robin
