duathlon and marathon in the same month
both will be my first events and i'm currently doing my training for the marathon. i've participated in a few 10k runs this year and that's about it. i cycle 100k twice a week during weekends.
i might be a bit overexcited here, but is it possible for a newbie to do both duathlon and marathon in the same month?
is it a bad move to go for full duathlon (11k run - 64k bike - 10k run), then have a two week interval before the marathon?
i've already registered for the marathon. but i'm still in doubt about registering for the duathlon. i'm worried that i might not recover in time for the marathon.
i'm just aiming to finish before cutoff time (5 hrs for duathlon, 6 hrs for marathon).
please talk some sense into me.

It all depends on your level of fitness and training volume. Your 100k weekend rides are a similar amount of work to the mentioned duathlon. But are you running regularly? Running, for me, leaves longer lasting residual soreness than cycling. Other than the 10k runs, you haven't mentioned any running training.
You could try some 21k runs to test this.
***If you decide to go for it, you MUST get a leg massage immediately after the duathlon. A proper one. That's probably the easiest and most important thing you could do to recover in time for the 42k.***

You should have no problem, assuming you are decently fit and are being honest with your training, being ready for the marathon. But, take it from a marathon runner, 26.2 miles is serious business, if you haven't ran at least a 16 mile run or been doing good quality short runs finishing the marathon will be a serious lesson in discomfort. Its all about getting you body comfortable with time on your feet.
