aquabike?
I am a road cyclist but can swim reasonably well....can't run at all (bad knees) so would consider trying an aquabike event...but these seem pretty rare...any suggestions on where to find these events?

There is a half iron aquabike that is run by the Vineman people. That's in california. other than that you can check Active.com or the USAT website.

I did a triathlon last week that had both a duathlon and an Aquabike. Then they are having a more olympic distance aquathlon and aquabike in a month or so. I think there were only two participants in the aquabike.
You could also do relay teams. I don't believe you have to have 3 people. My 1st duathlon they had teams of 3 do the 2/10/2. You could probably talk to a race director into letting you do the swim and bike and then having a friend (who may just be getting into running) do the run.
If you go to trifind and go to PA, there is a Aquathlon (swim and then run). You could probalby go there and atleast watch and talk to the race director/organizer about starting some aquabikes.
