I can get a pair of bontranger aeolus 6.5's for £500.. They are in good condition but im wondering will they actually be usefull on a timetrial bike. In otherwords will they give me a noticable advantage over regular wheels?

Yes - 65mm deep rim with toroidal shape* - I believe these were sourced from Hed.
Not a fan of the paired spoke design personally but for the price not bad at all.
*According to both Hed and Zipp who share the patent on this shape claim it is the faster design.
