Ironman 70.3 Question
so I'm going thru different sites looking at 70.3 races and no where do I see any info about clydesdales.
The champonship in Florida doesn't even list the groupe, why?
Is it open enrollment for clydesdale?

Ironman is open for all. I don't think size or weight matters. When I registered for a HIM never did I see anything about Athenas or Clydesdales. Frankly it should not matter.

I was just wondering because some races have qualifiers like Kona so I didn't know if they had a class for them. I wonder if awards are givin for that class?

I race April 3rd for a local 5k run and trying to talk the wife into the WYCA tri the next weekend but dont know if its going to happen, kids sports all started back up and the schedule is getting boged down.
If not that one I'll continue to train until the time is right, I'm ready for a Tri just letting it all fall into his hands.
Thanks for asking Tom, I've been busy and haven't made any solid plans yet.

Clydesdale is only a class you see in independent tris. I haven't ever seen it in IM brand tris. Just race your age group, anyhow. I say that as a clydesdale who only races my AG, even in races that have a clydes class. I raced one race in clydes class, placed in the top three, and said to myself 'this is stupid', and haven't done so since.

we have clyds in the local races who regularly take 1-10 overall, its crazy. A buddy of mine did master novice and took 5th and now he keeps telling me to change to novice and I could be in the top ten too.
I don't really care about all that, my goal is to one day get into a 70.3,race with a few friends(thats why I was looking at Augusta 70.3 ) and see how it all plays out.
From what I've seen there aren't many clyds in the big races.
Oh and Tom,
WANT!

caelric is exactly right. There is no official clydesdale category except in some individual races. Records aren't kept for clyde categories like they do for age group categories. Some races do it just for fun or hope to attract more people.

I remember seeing clydes/athenas group when I signed up for Lake Stevens Ironman 70.3 last year.
Not sure if just that one particular Ironman had separate groups. Or if the organizers (PEM) were merely asking the question for statistical purposes and there really was no separate category.

Oh, and if you do see them at an official IM race(70.3 or full IM), there are exactly zero Kona/clearwater spots offered for the Clysdedale category. So, yes, if they a e there, they are there merely to promote the race, or maybe gather statistics.
