Lance wil race in a Triathlon

I hope he gets to do the Ironman...I will luv to see him destroy the bike leg. He is a great athlete and if he decides to compete I am sure that he will be competitive very quickly.

your thoughts

Regardless of whether you like Lance or not, it's still a shot in the arm for publicity for the sport. That's hard to be a bad thing.

I pretty sure Lance started off as a triathlete in his teens before focusing on the bike.

He will come out of the water 5-10 minutes behind the leaders, then probably take the lead on the bike at some point, then he will be destroyed in the run by 75% of the pro field. He will most likely get chicked by the strong female runners like Wellington and Carfrae.

He should have stayed retired and raced just for fun. Oh wait he did that for 3 years and made a lot of friends and got a lot of respect for it. And then he tried a comeback. What happened yesterday in the Alps was nothing short of embarrassing. The crashes held him up by 1-2 minutes tops. He lost 12. Next mountain stage there will be no crash to blame, and he'll lose even more time. He will be at least an hour down on GC by Paris.

Lance fan?

I know he would be faster than me. What's your point? I have my own opponents (other men in my AG) ad he has his. His opponents will run away from him. Most of mine will remain behind me.

Yep, as a late teen he was already competitive in Olympic distance races with the top pros. I remember when he switched to professional biking and I thought he was nuts. Okay, I missed that one!

He's a good swimmer and swam competitively as a kid. That alone gives him a huge advantage over most triathletes who generally have poor technique. He should easily come out of the water under an hour. Of course, the bike ride will be strong for him, and I can easily see him doing about a 3 hour marathon. If he trains for the IM and takes it seriously, I say best case is around 8:30, so I would predict 8:30 to 9:00.

If Lance really wanted to, he could revolutionize the sport. He is so well liked, that he could make triathlon more popular than cycling in the US (not that it would be that hard). Imagine the exposure he could bring to his Livestrong campaign. I hope he decides to go all out for this.

I believe his marathon PR is 2:46 ... I hardly think he will be destroyed in the run!

He still holds the course record at the River Cities Triathlon in Louisiana that he set as a teenager.

Why will Lance never compete in a triathlon? It's one sport that requires two balls.

Sorry had to borrow that from the USAT site post. Rumor is he's looking at doing a HIM.

He should be very competitive then - one less ball improves his swim profile and less weight for the bike (a ball weighs how many grams?)

But how many of them will bike away from you? Good thing it's a cumulative event, and not just how fast you can run after biking and swimming.
