Hit by a car during race.

yup, it sucks as much as i always thought it would... BUT no broken bones, some road rash on my left elbow, and am very sore!!!! Bike is toast :(. Find out tomorrow after the police report is filed if the driver was cited. Also get to talk to my insurance adjuster tomorrow morning.

Worst of all, and the purpose of this rant, was having a great OLY time (for me), out of the water under 28 minutes and was avg 22 on what is a tough hilly course (for michigan), about 500 yds from the transition... WHAM.

Will post a full report after the insurance junk gets all straightened out. Hopefully nobody will ever go through this, but if they do, maybe my experience will help when it's all said and done...

Hope you recover quick.

Wow! I hope you recover well and the insurance company doesn't jerk you around. I've never thought about insurance for my bike before, honestly. Something to think about.

My big question is - how in the heck did the driver get on the course?!

Triguy 06-20-11 01:18 PM

Sorry bout the crash, good luck in recovery!

Well, I have finally gotten a copy of the police report and compiled all of the prices of my damaged goods from the accident. Now I just have to wait for my claims representative to call/email me back so that I can get them submitted. Hoping that they will work quickly (not optimistic however) and I can get the bike together for a July 10 tri next weekend.

It was a car accident, his car insurance company will handle it. If you're a pedestrian and you get struck by a motorist, their insurance company will go "LOL HERE IS $50 FOR MEDICAL!" Then you lawyer up. ... but you have car insurance, your insurance company goes, "Hey, you hit my client with a car, it's your fault, it's a vehicular collision, you pay. If we have to get lawyers, you pay for them too."

You're on a bike, they're in a car ... car insurance. They're liable. Bike, pedestrian, car, whatever.

yea, i have a family friend who is a lawyer... if they don't want to pay for my damaged property (i am being quite modest in what I submitted to them), then I will be getting a lawyer. Michigan is a no-fault state, so that means my insurance paid my medical, but since it wasn't in my car they won't pay my damages, it is his property damage insurance that will pay my damages (assuming he was insured).

I work in brain injury rehab, and see lots of auto cases come through from various forms of MVA's. Some good, some not so good (from the insurance perspective).

Well, the insurance adjuster FINALLY came to verify my claim, and gave me approval for all of my damages... unfortunately i am on weekend 2 of 3 weekends straight of TRIs. only 2 or so left in the season after this... maybe i'll have to use the money for a cross bike

Its very unfortunate my friend what you are experiencing, but at least you are in one piece and can live to tell about it.

Its great insurance is following up responsibly to get you back on track.

Just be glad you didn't get shoved into a barbed wire fence at 30 MPH.
