    training races

I am racing my first half Ironman triathlon Sept. 24th. There is an olympic length at the same course a month earlier. I have raced the olympic course last year. Is it a good idea to do an Olympic race this close to a half Ironman?

Any time you can get experience on a course, the better off you will be. A month away will give you plenty of time to evaluate what went well and what didn't. As long as you only have to make small adjustments, that is enough time to get used to them. You can even do a relatively strenuous bit of training the week after the Oly and still get a good couple weeks of tapering when you just refine your technique and let your body build strength.

I agree with rugbytotri, a month is plenty of time to recoup from an olympic race. It'll be a good race to build your confidence on the course.

You can always just use the Olympic as a training day. In other words, don't race but rather do the event and pay attention to details that you think will help in the 1/2 IM.
