My First Brick

Wow! I just finished my first ever brick. I rode 12 miles on my trainer, hopped off and changed shoes, then out of the garage and off to a 2 mile quick run. I know people say these are hard to incorprate into workouts, but I really liked it. Maybe it was the fact that my legs wre totally warm for my run. I actually ran a little faster pace than I usually run my normal 5 mile run in. I thought I would be slower. Just wanted to let everyone know how my training was going so far this year. This is my plan for the next couple of months:

Monday - weights/core
Tuesday - bike/run brick
Wednesday - weights/core
Thursday - bike/run brick
Friday - weights/core
Saturday - longer run
Sunday - longer bike

As soon as it gets warm enough, I will start swimming again. I was swimming 1 mile at a time in a pool until it got too cold in the fall. I have not swam(?) since. I am training for my forst sprint distance on May 1st. Depending on how that goes, I will schedule some more races (maybe longer distances if it is easy).

I am excited!!! I just can't forget my family, my full-time job and oh yeah, school...

Good job - and good luck in your first sprint race. You are right and you need to remember balance is important and not to be too focused on training to the point it hurts other important things in life.

nice dude. they can be fun. let's you know you're working, and if you jump off after a high cadence it makes you feel like you're flying, for a little while at least

Don't you just love those first few steps of running after getting off the bike. Jello legs is what I call it

Yeah, but it was no where near as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, I didn't quite have an Ironman night either...

How about a little rest too? That schedule looks pretty jam packed!

sprocket man's got a good point. you should try to incorporate a rest day. If not one day a week then at least one every 9-10 days. otherwise you may burn out before you get to start swimming

After looking at the schedule a 2nd time I'm in agreement with others. Also, a recommendation I recently read that made a lot of sense to me is to not do long bike and long run on the weekends. Split them up and do long run on Wednesday. That's how I've adjusted my schedule for my June 1/2 IM.

Speaking of which I need to head downstairs to the hotel fitness center and get on that treadmill
