Hybrid bike for first mini tri???
I am thinking about doing my first mini triathlon.... It invovles doing a 20k bike ride. As it is my first one though I am thinking of starting off with a hybrid bike instead of going straight to a road bike. That way if I end up not getting into the sport, I can still use the hybrid for leisure.
Any thoughts on using a hybrid bike for this sort of thing? I am thinking I will get either a Giant Roam or a Giant Rove.
Any thoughts on either bike would be appreciated.
Sure you can, but many people buy a hybrid and then up trading it in for a road or tri bike. My daughter did her first tri on a hybrid and won her age group. Put some narrow tires on and think about some clip in pedals or cages at least. Remember to keep you cadence up and to have fun!

Why not just buy an old, cheap road bike (there are a lot of them around and many of them are surprisingly fast) to train and race on. That way, if you like the sport, you'll have a bike to start with and train with and if you don't like the sport, it won't have been much of an investment.
Well, I ended up getting a road bike. Decided on a Giant Avail 3 :-)
Excellent! Good luck on your first tri. Remember to keep you cadence up and have FUN!!
