Louisville Triathlon

Walking around the Triathlon exhibits looking at the gear and sticking out like a pearl onion on a sundae, I noticed people were pretty nice. I also noticed a disturbing lack of steel bikes. Oh well no one is perfect, good luck this Sunday. See you at one of the stations.

I competed at the Michigan Titanium last weekend on my Bianchi Imola (steel frame). I was maybe one of a half dozen bikes w/o aero bars, and the only steel frame I saw. I felt a little outgunned the night before unloading and seeing all the bikes with full carbon wheelsets worth 2x more than my entire kit.

At two different spots on the course, I had spectators holler at me -- NICE BIANCHI and BIANCHIs RULE. Made me smile, and was good to be noticed.

This is a picture of Dave Scott in 1986. He and Mark Allen were riding steel road bikes in the late 80's and their overall times in Hawaii were less than 6 minutes slower than the world record time of 8:03:56 set by Craig Alexander in 2011. I hate to use the LA quote: "It's not about the bike," but it's really not - especially for mere mortals like us

Have fun tomorrow!!!
