Holyhead to Llandudno

Hey, everyone.

I'm going on a cycling trip next weekend (30 May - 1 June), and I need some help.

The plan is to take the ferry across from Dublin to Holyhead, then cycle from there to Llandudno. However, there seems to be a part of the route between Bangor (from after Menai bridge) to Conwy which is very cycle-unfriendly.

It's been suggested I take the A5 through Snowdonia and then back up to Llandudno, but that would mean a 125km trip. I could do that in one day, the problem is I will have a rest day in Llandudno and then need to return the way I came. I'm not at all sure that I'm fit enough to do that.

Has anyone here cycled between Bangor and Conwy before? Is it likely to be a nightmare on that stretch, or is it do-able? Is it possible to wind one's way from one little town/village to the next, parallel to the A55 but avoiding it?

I'm not as familiar with these roads as might be thought from my address - I'm a South African, been living in Ireland for three years now.

Nadia.

Well, seeing as the overwhelming response here seems to indicate not many of you cycle around that area, fyi to anyone considering the same area - my first inclination is to say, don't. Route finding was an absolute nightmare which cast a shadow over the whole weekend. However, at the same time it was some of the most awesome cycling I've ever done. So instead I'll say get a detailed map of the area and don't trust the cycling route markers. More details here: http://nadiacycles.blogspot.com/2008...udno-trip.html
