Dropouts CC (manchester)

The Dropouts Cycling Club has been set up for those people that would love to do some road riding but have problems getting out of bed early at the weekend.

Dropouts CC is basically a bunch of cyclists that like riding fancy road bikes (modern and vintage) and stylish lycra, but as we like drinking ale as much as we love bikes, we don't like getting up early and so all our rides start after noon on a saturday to allow for hangovers to clear a little and allow us to spend Saturday night getting ready for Sundays hangover.

We don’t really want to race we just want to be racers.

We'd quite like to have a bash at racing and we wouldn’t mind winning, but we understand our place in the peloton and we have a lack of ego to match it.

Most of us lack serious competitiveness. But we simply ride as fast as we can, waiting at appropriate times for those that take a bit longer to grind up the hills. We're not ashamed that we sometimes want to cry when we ride up hills, and grin when we get to the top. We cry when we watch the classics and daydream with glassy eyes of Ventoux, Mortirolo and the cobbles to Roubaix.

We also like to stop at the tops of some climbs to take in the view and eat an ice lolly.

After a ride we tend to find a place serving real ales and rant about our torturous days ride, talk about our hero's: Burton, Cooke, Hinault, Merckx, Anquetil, Coppi, Simpson, Millar... and put on French or Italian accents now and then.

We encourage people to be self sufficient- carry your own tools/puncture repair kit etc.

It is a dream mixed with a nightmare for us all to ride up the giant of Provence but we are desperate to do it. We shall probably approaching crying with dread but we shall raise our caps at Tommy's memorial, write our names in the road at the top and have a cuppa on the way down at Chalet Reynard...
