Hi, I've been on the forum since 2006 but haven't noticed this section before. You will usually find me on the Folding Bikes section - Swift Folders. I'm in Carlisle.

Been a member for awhile but just moved to Little Haseley ( near Oxford) from the US and commute to Abingdon now everyday by bike '64 Raleigh Gran Sport. About 13 miles each way.

Ugh. I just can't imagine something as odd as cycle traffic jams in london! I haven't been in London since the congestion charge started. Hope it's better now than I remember it. Enjoy!
I never saw much difference after the congestion charge, it was still just as quick to walk across town as take the bus. That said I'm aware there are a lot more cyclists about than there used to be, and I don't think I'm only noticing them since I joined the ranks of cyclists.

As for the original question: Just hang around and you'll find Brits and ex-pats lurking around. Watch for odd language clues as well.
Oh yes, watch for people using silly foreign terms like tyre, centre, metre and talking about alien concepts like riding on the left and turning right across traffic.

I did it on my Dahon folder the other day. The front wheel was bouncing off the ground the whole time. I usually come in to the village the other way, so down the hill!

Did it twice today, The first bit is fine but that finally slog up the hill is hell, I only do the hill for the view of the bridge, It's worth it in my opinion!

I'm from England originally! Did my fair share of cycling as a kid around the old roads in Weston-Super-Mare.

Used to cycle in London, moved to wales end of 2009. I have always cycle whenever I get the opportunity, cycled in london solidly for nearly five years.
I started cycling again, two years ago, but m getting old , so have decided to get an e-bike.
Hopefully the forum would guide me along.....

Don't forget to lace up and run if you can, even a few miles a couple of times a week will have more impact than any other form of exercise, good luck to you!

PS avoid the Brown Ale

I've just joined and I'm from the UK. I'm living in Hampshire at the moment and do a lot of my riding on the South Downs. Anyone else South Downs regulars?

By the way, can anyone tell me how to update my forum picture please?

Just joined and from Scotland. We can all thank another Scotsman for keeping us out of the mud:

Extract from Wikipedia:

John Loudon McAdam (21 September 1756 – 26 November 1836) was a Scottish engineer and road-builder. He invented a new process, "macadamisation", for building roads with a smooth hard surface that would be more durable and less muddy than soil-based tracks.
Modern road construction still reflects McAdam's influence. Of subsequent improvements, the most significant was the introduction of tar (originally coal tar) to bind the road surface's stones together – "tarmac" (for Tar Macadam) – followed later by the use of hot-laid tarred aggregate or tar-sprayed chippings to create better road metalling. More recently, oil-based asphalt laid on reinforced concrete has become a major road surface, but its use of granite or limestone chippings still recalls McAdam's innovation.
