Anyone else interested in the Great Notts Bike Ride?

Hi, seems like there is quite a few of us on here! I'm from Nottingham, taking part in the Great Notts Bike Ride this June 22nd, if anyone else fancies it? There is a new 100 mile sportive route on it which could eb fun (?!) as well as 18 and 50 mile. Should be a great day out. It's pretty cheap and a load of the money goes to charity. If anyone is interested I think this is the link to the application form or just go to Notts County Council Website and type Great Notts Bike Ride into search engine...https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/ho...nline-form.htm
If anyone does sign up let me know, be fun to know more people doing the ride!
Hopefully see you there!

Hi Andyuk, I'm from Kent - used to be the Garden of England, but now with all the identikit housing estates being built on any spare bit of green land, it's getting to be the Backyard of Britain! Still, more tarmac to ride on!

hi I'm from North Shropshire and am just getting into cycling (I'm 54 and need to get fit again ). My bike's a Gary Fisher Tiburon which I got from a local shop about 3 months ago. It's been brilliant so far and it's only the start of the summer . This location's great - lots of quiet flat lanes or over the border into Wales for a few hills.

Hello all.

Bikes: Raleigh Chiltern 3 speed, Pioneer Venture GT 27 speed tourer, Carrera Subway 8. Sadly I don't like the Pioneer, which though I've had it for over a year, has only been ridden three times, and is still in brand new condition, with the blue grease on

Hi Keiron

Thanks for the good wishes.

I'm delighted that someone recognised it as a welsh word. The word is an adjective that means invisible which rather fits the way I have tried to walk in the Welsh mountains - 'take only photographs and leave only footprints'. I try to have a low impact in many of the things I do - cycling has now become a new activity for me as clapped out feet have put a stop to hillwalking and I hope the bike will give me access to some of the hills without impact on my foot. Having a bike has been fantastic and I've managed to get up to runs of about 25 miles (slowly my average speed is about 12mph) and am aiming to do 50 mile runs by the end of the year.

cheers

Anweledig. I live in Wales and have just come back from a short holiday in Shropshire, and did a video of a cycle trip I took to Bicton. Take a look at my web site to see it. Just click on the top screen you see.

Really interesting site velocipede, I enjoyed all your bike videos (I assume a helmet camera but what sort? I'd quite like to have a go at making a couple like that) and particularly the one on Bicton as it is fairly close to home although I haven't cycled there yet. The dahon looks interesting, I looked at a Dahon electric bike at one point (amongst others) but in the end went for the Tiburon. Shrewsbury is a fascinating town with a lot of medieval links. It's interesting to see a wide array of interests as well - I am similar in that - I keep tropical fish, hold an amateur radio licence and have a narrow boat on the Llangollen canal, so rarely have time to get bored!. Having seen your site I think I'll have to work on one as well.

Cheers

Thanks for coming back to me Anweledig,

You say you've built up slowly to 25 mile trips, I've been cycling now for 3 years, and it's only lately, like today, that I've been really comfortable with 25 miles in one go. What's up with your foot/feet? I suffer from tendonitus in my heels, which doesn't trouble me, at all, while cycling, which I find strange, considering the motion of one's feet, while pedalling?

I envy you that canal boat, I often cycle along the Neath canal, which sadly is not in great repair, and hence no canal boats of any type to see. Slowly the canal society are trying to improve things, a new canal basin has been built at Ynysarwed, but it will be years before any canal traffic could reappear, which is a great shame.

Cheers for now, and good cycling.

clapped out!!

Hi Keiron

I can manage 25 mile rides in this area reasonably well (it's pretty flat on the route I choose with no major hills to climb). Essentially I have very flat feet (think pancakes and you'll get the idea ), as a result after quite a few years of wandering around they have effectively collapsed (according to the podiatrist - the physio just said they were knackered), this has caused some tendon and muscle damage which means that walking any distance over about 200m causes a lot of pain and discomfort even with fitted insoles. I have just been back today and they are going to try a new insole to see if this can help. Cycling turns out to be great for me though as it doesn't create impacts on the sole of the foot and I seem to be able to get moving again. I got the bike at the end of February and am learning how to ride it properly (I was out today checking out the best way to use the gears - it's not like a car ), the forums are a great place to learn from other people and I plunder ideas shamelessly.

The local canal is the Montgomery and this is being restored slowly, currently they are approaching Llanymynech and then it will be a short distance to open up onto the southern end of the canal and down to Newtown - the towpaths are great for cycling on the new stretches.

all the best

Bob

I'm from York, North Yorkshire but now in Livermore, Ca. Miss riding the country lanes and stopping at a pub for lunch, but the weather here is so much warmer, can cycle most of the year without getting wet.

I live in Cardiff, Wales, and would like to meet/join others interested in easy(ish) rides preferably on the east side of the city. I qualify for the "over 65" thread and have recently returned to cycling to improve fitness. Read more in my blog at https://justwilliams.wordpress.com

ME? Rochdale, in Lancashire (Now GR Manchester) bordering yorkshire. Great for MTB and Road. Most who live around the penines probably have road and MTB bikes because of our hilly estates! Just a shame about all the pot-holes.
