Dunno if it will be an issue on your BD, but if after test riding it you you find you need an idler, go to Terracycle. Their rollers are mounted on sliding booms and they do custom builds. I'd bet that if Dummies are prone to chain slap then they will have already come up with a solution for someone at one time or another. Incidentally, I have a LWB from RecycledRecumbents.com and purchased through that guy a custom Terracycle jobbie for my bent. A bit pricey but works great.

Thanks! Yeah, this is something that can be added at any time later. I will try without one first. It seems like most Big Dummy owners don't use anything special for that.

I'll ship it to you, brother, but last I heard, it'll run you a hundred or higher to ship this monster. That's a lotta clams to ship a frame and fork. If you're willing to absorb that cost (send me your zip code and I'll estimate via USPS.com), then I'll find enough bubble wrap and cardboard to properly package the thing.

Yeah, I loves me some Magic Tape; unlike electric tape, it can withstand extreme cold and heat. And when you want to remove it, it doesn't reveal a mess of sticky goo underneath it's layers.

Woah, it's expensive stuff! I found something similar at Home Depot: Electric and Seal tape, made by Nashua. It's supposed to withstand temps from -60F to 500F, creates a watertight seal, it's strong (doesn't wear on sharp edges, etc) and it's supposed to come off without leaving any mess. Like this one, but it was like $8 at Home Depot.

Looks like the same stuff. Worth the price in my experience!

The original Magic Tape is made in the UK and might be better from what I have read, but at $30 for a roll it makes me think 5 times before buying This Nashua tape is probably as close as it gets. The tape has a plastic lining that you need to peel off first and it appears to be super stretchy. Is the Magic Tape like that too? This might be better than painting in some cases! Some reviewers on Amazon say they were able to fix leaking pipes and even a slit, wet sprinkler hose under pressure with this stuff and it held for weeks. If that's so this will go on the top of my list of the most useful things to always have around next to zip ties, Velcro strips, etc

Sad to hear about the Goat being parted out and sold, but it's only a bike and soon you'll have a great new bike to ride. Enjoy the new rig...

I will continue to rock that first batch BD up here in Canada...

Re: peel the plastic lining, etc.—Yup, same as Magic Tape. But $30/roll for Magic Tape? Yowza. I paid $5 for a roll at Lowe's here in Ohio. Somebody's making a fortune on that stuff. For that price, it better make me breakfast!

I only found one place on the net and that's what they wanted I will check Lowe's next time I'm there.

Soon, there will be one more! And it'll inherit parts of the Goat and, hopefully, part of its soul too! Although, it'll spend most of its life in ugly urban setting

NOOOO! THE GOAT!!!

Very sad to hear that. You and this thread have been a big part of the inspiration and information for my very slow build. I still need a lot of parts, mainly because I'm over researching things and taking forever, but I've referred back to this and your photos a lot.

Hope you keep us updated throughout the process and the new build. Knowing you I'm sure it'll be badass.

I'm selling the beloved Goat. Hard to do, since guys like Vik, Brent, and myself were among the very first to build Dummies and share the love. But I need to move some goods ($), and need to simplify. So I'm selling all my bikes in order to build just one, and the ol' Goat is part of that sale.

Would love to hand off the frame/fork locally in Central Ohio. Have zero desire to pack that monster, let alone hear someone choking on the shipping price.

I think the SON28 + Rohlhoff wheelset is spoken for. I think... Greg?

Have other stuff for sale, too: the Surly Mr. Whirly crankset (w/ single 44T Salsa chainring), the new FlightDeck, Thomson seatpost, etc.

hey dwnptrl_777. Sorry to hear you are getting rid of the Goat. I am finishing my build and would love to but the new Flight Deck off of you. What would you want for it? Are you by chance selling the JJ Loop Bar as well? I can't PM as I haven't posted nearly as much as should for what i get from this forum. You can PM me with your info and I can email or call you if they are still availble. thanks!
Chris

Love that circling shark reference. I think any of us who've been obsessed with a particular bike build can relate! Sorry 'bout the delayed response. I'm neck-deep in a crazy week (being busy is so overrated).

Adam's right...the FlightDeck is gone. Also gone: V-Racks, Wideloaders, and Whatchamacollars (I feel like I'm reading from a Dr. Suess book...) And a particularly nice guy swooped in and bought the SON28/Rohloff wheelset, Whirly crankset, Thomson seatpost and Schmidt Edelux headlight/wiring.

And the Jones bar isn't for sale—moving that to my new build. Sorry!

So, what's left of the Goat:

18" frame and fork. 2008 model that's been chased/faced, powdercoated black, fully Frame-Saver'd, very well cared for.
- comes with two forks: the original and a second Big-Dummy-specific fork with a taller steerer tube (currently installed)
- Planet Bike Hardcore fenders (black, of course!) included.
$400 if you pick it up locally in Central Ohio.

Old Man Mountain front rack, black.
- Dummy-specific sizing, ready to go for your own Dummy build.
$75, (includes shipping within continental US.)

LOL at the shark reference too Yeah, feels weird. Like I said before, the Goat was kind of famous on these forums and elsewhere too.

dwnptrl_777 - Yeah there is a certain amount of guilt in trying to devour small portions of the goat before the other guy beats me to it. Fortunately it seems as though the other guys HAS beat me to it...so my guilt will be minimized! Would the OMM rack, with it's dummy specific sizing, still fit my LHT? Or would I need a smaller skewer? If I can get it to fit my LHT for about the same price I would take it. I have a Surly Nice Rack crammed on to my BD right now and it working for me. The extra weight of the surly rack isn't quite as noticable on the BD with all of the other weight it carries. The OMM rack would be a perfect replacement though on my LHT. Let me know! Good luck with the next build. I look forward to seeing the pictures....

The OMM rack will work on your LHT. The front hub spacing is the same.
