Is that a table leg propping it up? Looks like a leg from a card table or something. Hmmmmm

rbrian 11-05-08 05:20 PM

That looks like it can take quite a load. Unlike the bike racks, which I think I could cut through with a small piece of cheese.

sumguy 11-06-08 09:36 AM

what kind of lock is that on the back tire?

funrover 11-06-08 10:44 AM

Vintage bike, still in use.... Get my applause, nice pics!

JeanCoutu 11-06-08 01:18 PM

I like the front tray mounting idea and serious rear kickstand, the rest of the bike can die in a fire.

Jaron 11-06-08 02:29 PM

yea this bike is a piece of ****.

badmother 11-06-08 02:37 PM

The lock I am not sure of, just a cheapo old wire lock. This bike looks alot like one I got from my aunt (- all the x-tra`s). she bought it just after the war, 1945-48 some time around there. They look wery much the same but mine still has its original colour.

squirtdad 11-06-08 03:17 PM

where is "local".....i see the snow so I am guessing northern climes.

jgedwa 11-06-08 06:33 PM

Oh please do not let some hipster see that stem and start getting barspin ideas.

Chicagoan 11-06-08 11:10 PM

Judging by the milkcrate, Canada?

Not when seen from a mature point of view.

Why? Looks like a decent bike to me.

Juggler2 11-10-08 12:00 PM

Nothing wrong with riding an old bike. Especially in the winter!

That bike looks lovely. It has an aluminum chain guard, sexy.

It's an old bike. Get over your pro hi-tech whiz bang bias. I bet that thing is more solid than anything sold today..

I like it !

SocioPathogen 02-08-09 09:49 AM

Wouldn't that front bin unbalance the bike?
Apart from that, I like it. The sidewalls could be higher on the front one though, but that's it.

Actually that front rack is a better choice than a fork mounted one, it transfers the load to the frame and won't throw you off balance when you are turning. Of course it depends on how much weight you have up there too. You don't see that type of bike in the US very often.

Looks like that person does some serious recycling. I've seen a number of cyclists around here on bikes with the big flat platforms with bags full of plastic bottles and aluminum cans perched on top.

Is that a hub brake on the front wheel? They are all weather!

Looks like a Sturmey Archer Dynohub although it looks like it's not connected to anything.

It could be either. Gazelle uses a hub brake that looks like a copy of the old SA one. FWIW the SA Dyno hub and SA Drum brake used the same basic hub housing.:D

Looking at the pics more closely, There is only one brake cable and it snakes down beside the front fork on the left side in the second picture. And in the first picture, I don't see any sign of a rim brake. So I think it must be a hub brake.

After looking at it again. I think it has to be a Sturmey Archer Hub brake.
