Installng Gears/Brakes on Trike?

Installng Gears/Brakes on Trike?
As of this morning I'm the proud owner of a new Pedicab -- seemed a good deal at $150:

I plan to do a few upgrades on the thing then my GF is going to use it to make extra money at night, as we live 2.5 miles from Downtown Houston.
Anyway, I'm thinking drum brakes and multiple gears would be cool.
Gears: A Sturmey-Archer 3-speed internal hub seems like a good choice. But, I have a stupid question: where do you install the hub? The guy at my LBS said he thinks you install it on the rear axle somehow.
Brakes: Drum brakes are apparently a good way to go on this. The front brake is currently a clincher and it's less effective than putting my feet down. I suppose it would be simple enough to get rid of this entirely and put a drum on the front. But, the rear appears to be a "belt" that grabs onto the axle and works via friction. My question on the brakes is similar to the gears: where do you put the drum brake? It seems like putting it on one wheel only would be a bad idea...

I've got a Worksman PAV with a 3sp so maybe I can help. The install is sorta easy
really...it you can get someone to do a bit of welding.
The 3sp hub can be bought from Worksman already built up and the axle sprocket can also.
The hub mounts on brackets welded behind the shaft with a short jackshaft chain running
between the hub and axle. The pedal chain feeds the 3 spd hub directly.

When done it feeds power to the wheels like this......Pedals to hub...hub to axle.
One thing you do not want forget is to change the front chainring to a 22T or 32T small rings.

Put a good 'clincher' brake in front. Does it drive both rear wheels or only one?

The brake lever looks like a rod brake. You might check the adjustments and pads on the brakes for starters. Actually, for Houston, I'd think a single speed and iffy brakes would work just fine. You're not going over any hills or down any mountains.
