What are your thoughts on a centerstand?

Thanks.
Sun page here, says:

"The rear end is constructed around the original xtracycle brand bags & accessories."

No word on kickstand though.

Didn't xtracycle change their bags/wideloaders at some point? I think there is an early and new style. Not sure. If the Sun uses the "original" style, in other words discontinued style, might be a problem. Likely still available now but down the line maybe not so much. I'll have to look into this further, I might be mistaken.

EDIT: Looks like it's no big deal, there is apparently a retrofit kit so that new style can be used on old style bikes.

This is why I'm so anxious to see closeup pics of one. We have no idea what kind of kickstand it uses, how close to the original Xtracycle design it is, etc.

You can kind of see the kickstand in the pic here:

https://dirttreaders.com/phpBB3/viewt...p?f=35&p=92170

front fender clearance doesn't look very good...

Yea Adam I did see that description too.I just wanted to be sure that's the case rather than assuming it.I mean does Sun mean every and all of the Xtracycle accessories including the wideloaders,it's impossible to say.I was concerned since I havn't a clue how to find out for sure. Thanks Guy....

That kickstand is your typical double leg,ok for even or lighter balanced loads.Xtracycle has the mighty kickback centerstand that fits the FreeRadical and BD.I don't know much about these bikes but it appears like you can use Xtracycles kickback centerstand and the wideloaders on the Sun bike holes. That is from the video online.I just wish I knew for sure.I like how both the kickback and wideloaders can be used together using the same holes.See video at link.

https://tinyurl.com/48q7eqn

PS-Just viewed the pics again of the kickback at link, there maybe a fitment problem using on the Sun.Look at the top center of the kickback where it meets the frame.May not work.Xtracycle uses whats called "taco shield" which are used between the kickback metal and the bikes metal for protection.I imagine it would be luck for it to fit the Sun frame.Darn.

I didn't get a reply, so I called. The person who answered told me they don't and won't have any assembled bikes. They only sell to bike shops, not to consumers. He added they don't have an MSRP, rather the final price is left up to the bike shop. He confirmed it should be in the ball park of $600. He also said they don't come with wide loaders, just how pictured. I forgot to ask about disk brake hubs, sorry. He did say that Aaron's in West Seattle already has five on back-order and they expect them to ship by the end of the month. I'm not sure where Aaron's is, but it seems like this is the one he's referring to.

When I ordered mine, the bike shop said that the Sun rep mentioned that he/she had 150 units inbound, and that 130 of them were sold ( meaning sold on the wholesale level to bike shops who had ordered them ) and 20 were still available. Assuming that I got one of the 20 since my shop had no stock units on order, there were 19 unallocated Sun Cargos left as of last week. Makes sense to me that somewhere with a much larger cycling community than we have, Seattle, would have a shop that had already ordered 5 bikes. Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Timothias, I didn't think to ask any specific questions for you. However, the person who answered the phone when I called said the bike didn't come with wideloaders, just how it's pictured. He then said Aaron's carries the Xtracycle accessories and wideloaders for the Sun could be gotten there. While he didn't say, "the Sun accepts Xtracycle wideloaders," he certainly did strongly imply it. Given that, and the fact it's built around the Xtracycle rear-end, I think it's more than safe to say the Sun will take the wideloaders as well as the other Xtracycle accessories.

UPDATE: Local bike shop just emailed me today about the Sun. I was told that the Sun rep had called the shop today and told them that the bike would now being arriving in late April rather than early April as originally specified. Bummer. Anyway, just thought I'd relay that for anyone interested in the Sun Cargo who might have followed this thread.

If and when I get more info from the shop, I'll update the thread. Also, once the bike arrives I'll let those know who may be interested. If anyone wants pics of specific components, etc, no prob.

Well well,it appears like the Sun Cargo Bike got bumped up on price quite a bit from the original numbers going around. If I remember correctly the MSRP was in the neighborhood of 550-600 bux which got the attention of many as a bike worth looking into. Now who knows? The 900 price I got from Veloverde looks legit since all their other bike prices are in line with MSRP so the Sun should be too.

I guess we will see whats what soon enough huh.

Wow, that's disappointing. I don't think this bike is such a great value at that price...

Hmm...

I ordered one about two months ago. My bike shop quoted me 600-ish. I got an email from them stating late April, then just last week they updated me that Sun has now said delivery in late May. If the bike comes in and they want $900 for it, I'm out. When I ordered the bike, I asked them if they wanted a deposit, and they said no, no biggie, we'll just get you one. I'd hate to stiff them and not take the bike, but if it comes in 50% higher than what I was told, I won't be picking it up.

Anyway, still holding out hope that the bike arrives in two weeks and is sub-$700. They've been good about keeping me in the loop, so we shall see. It will be disappointing if it's $900, because I passed on a sweet used Yuba Mundo deal due to my order on the Sun. If I missed the Mundo and the Sun is $900, I'll be kind of peeved.

No, and I'm beginning to get a little ticked at the lack of progress on my order. I ordered one in early March. I was told early April delivery. Then I was told late April. Then early May. Then mid to late May. Well, here is late May and I have heard nothing for about 2 weeks.

It's becoming a mental thing for me. I keep hearing how bad the economy is, etc. Here I am wanting to spend money, and apparently either nobody wants to take it, or they can't get the product to the dealers. Either way, I'm contemplating just calling the shop and canceling my order. I'm not going to beg people to take my money.

I'd say there's a 50/50 chance I stew over it for a couple of days and then get irritated enough to chuck the whole idea. ;>)

I'll try to pass by my LBS. The owner was interested in selling those frames (custom builds though). I'll check with him if he has any news.

Thanks, it would be interesting to see what they say. My shop was real helpful in the beginning, and as time has passed, they've gradually become less responsive about my order. I emailed them today about the status, and have not heard back yet...usually they email back immediately. If I don't hear from them, I'll drop by in person on Friday.

Delays like this can be any of a number things. Maybe Sun didn't sell enough in advance to actually make any. Maybe the factory screwed up, and promised by a date they could't deliver. Maybe the first production samples were wrong, and they had to redesign or rework them. Dozens of things that could go wrong. And with long supply chains even a small problem can be a big delay. Lack of communication is very frustrating, though.

Veloverde got back with me on the Sun Atlas Cargo Bike,I had initially asked them about availability and the 900 dollar price. They pretty much ignored my inquiry about the 900 price but did get back with me with this.

"We have two of the SUN Atlas Cargo Bikes on the way. We could ship one in the box to you if you wanted. We haven't seen them yet ourselves. Unassembled price would be $700 + shipping. I can't offer shipping cost until I can measure box, probably Monday or Tuesday, but I only charge ACTUAL freight charge from carrier"

Given the above 700.00 from Veloverde on price,it appears there is room for different price structures on the Atlas Bike.

Oh well for me it no longer matters as I am the owner of a new V4 Yuba Mundo.Yep I pulled the trigger.

I'm still going to watch this thread in case one of you end up with the Sun Cargo,I await the brave one.

My LBS just emailed me and said that my Sun shipped out Friday from the West Coast and should be here in Kansas City either this Friday or the following Monday.

Now, as long as they don't blindside me with some $900 pricing when I go to pick up, looks like we'll be owning a Sun shortly. When I initially ordered, I'd discussed pricing in the $650, so as long as it falls in that realm plus or minus, I'm in. I figure a 10% variation from what we discussed when I ordered is reasonable. A 30% increase, not reasonable.

The beauty of it from my perspective is that they didn't want a deposit from me when I placed the order, so if they yank my chain on price, and I don't take delivery, not like I'm out any. I offered to leave a deposit at that time and they said unnecessary.

I'll update when the bike arrives. To think...I might be famous. I might be the first Sun owner here. lol
