xtracycle v-racks -- squeeze closer together at the top?

I guess the standard xtracycle rear deck is about 7+ inches wide ... but I'm wondering if I made a narrower custom deck, if it would be possible to squeeze the v-racks to be closer together at the top? What I'd like to do is to get a CoPilot Taxi kids seat on there, and I think it will accommodate no more than 5" between the legs. I'm just not sure how stiff the v-racks are, and if they can be flexed around at all (or how much). Thanks!

Have you tried it on yours or do you not have one yet?

You can just move the hooks on the snap deck in and trim the edges of the snap deck down. You might run into some issues of pushing the freeloader bags into a brake caliper more than they should be or possibly into the wheel.

The snap deck is also designed to put some pressure on the bars of the freeloaders to add stability to the deck so you may need to use a toe strap or something to pull the bars into the hooks tighter. Worst case you can look at the pea pod from xtracycle, it is pricey but looks very nice.

crackerdog; no, I don't have one yet, and I don't know anyone who has one that I can play around with. Even my local bike shops don't keep them in stock.

nubcake, i'm not planning on using freeloader bags (at least not initially, this set-up is going to be all about hauling two kids, one of whom needs a copilot-type seat). So (I think) my only concern is how much the v-racks can be squeezed together ... i.e., if there's sufficient flex in them. Are you saying that you think that there is?

I was able to squeeze the v-racks together on my xtracycle to 5" near the back but not any tighter than 7" on the front. If you are willing to bend the racks in at the front there is certainly room for it to go in another inch on each side.
