Carry Freedom Y-Frame Large Trailer Hitch

I've got a Carry Freedom Y-Frame Large trailer which is a few years old now. The hitch has become untrustworthy of late (the part that stays on the bike is bent), and today the trailer came unhitched as I was riding down the street.

I've noticed that these trailers now come with a different style hitch. Unlike mine, which is all metal, the newer ones have a round plastic piece.

I wonder if this new hitch is better than the old model and if it will fit my trailer.

I'd be grateful if anyone who might know about this would give me some advice.

Thanks for all of your helpful replies .

I got in touch with the folks at Carry Freedom in Scotland and they suggested I get their newer, improved hitch, called the Lollipop. They even gave me a discount as I own one of their older trailers.

The red piece is made of of some kind of flexible plastic, which gives if the bike falls over. The old ones were metal and could be damaged if this happened. I really like this hitch and recommend getting one if you have an older model Carry Freedom. I think the Lollipop might work on some other trailers, too.

You did the right thing, and thanks for posting. I own a CF flatbed with the new type hitch and plastic but have not used it long enough to tell how strong it is. Generally I would expect hitches (just like tyres) to be someting you need to replace once in a while. I would also expect that if a factory change a part like this it should be becouse the old solution was not strong enough and they try to make it better. That is all I can say. good thing about it is you can use it with a Burly forged alu hitch. I can buy them locally so getting one for each bike is easy. We also have made some out of some 5mm angle alu available locally.
