Newbie question. Anybody have any experience with a Travoy from Burly? Pros Cons?

Going to start doing some grocery hauling and shopping with my LHT. Would eventually like to other things too. Extended rides with 1 or 2 nights of camping. Nothing major. These look like a newer product to me, and I'm curious about longevity. I like the hitch setup and the ease of storage. Been looking at bob trailers too. What are the pros and cons of 2 wheel vs 1 wheel trailers? Thanks...

I've got one, had it about 6 months now. I've also owned the now gone Big Tow single wheel trailer. The Travoy is fabulous! The single wheel trailer was nice for touring or the occasional odd sized load, but was always a pita to hitch and un hitch. The Travoy unhitches with one hand, I often just wheel it into the grocery store to shop and use it as a shopping cart. I've had no issues other than the hitch bolts have frozen up on me and I stripped them trying to get them off to swap bikes. At some point I will have to drill them out.

I bought the upper and lower grocery bags for mine, they seem to work for most loads. I did one overnight trip of 60 miles and it worked fine for that. That said, running around town is fine with the Travoy, but when I tour in the open with it you definitely feel the wind resistance. My single wheel trailer never had that issue.

Durability seems good, I have flipped the trailer twice now, both times it did not knock me down, the flexible hitch works well. I've had several trailers, bike combinations, but my travoy+bike friday combo has been the best, most versatile setup I have had.

I've also had a good experience with the Travoy for hauling groceries once a week with the grocery bags. No problems yet.

I bought one of these as a gift, when delivering it, it was hard to tell it was there. When we took it out the following night for a test, it swallowed a dozen large library books, couple of sacks worth of shopping, and a medium large pumpkin. Only comment was that she could feel a little extra wiggle when getting out of the saddle. I've since used it shopping, and that is where it excels. On the second trip out, the foam on the handle grip split, and fell off. I would think that this is a weak point, but it's easily fixed with a bit of handlebar tape. The comment on wind resistance is interesting, I haven't taken it on a long ride yet , so... maybe. Nicely made, touch pricey, but worth it for around town and shopping trips. May do well on some touring trips.

Here's mine, loaded to the weight limit tonight. The trailer worked perfectly but OMG pulling that up the mountainside even on 61 gear inches was probably the single toughest climb I've ever done.

61 gear inches? Did you forget to downshift? (My bike goes to just under 18") :D

Fixed gear. Think it is time to setup the flip flob hub.

I was going to recommend the OP include a light or 2 on anything they tow behind their bike, probably a flag too in high traffic areas. I like your strappable flasher there, you recall where you got it?

Looks to me like he is just using the included travoy cargo strap and slipped a normal blinky on it. The light looks like a planetbike flasher.

PDW Radbot 1000. Pretty versatile though I'd like something more powerful like a Dinotte.

I owned a BOB Yak and now have a Travoy and the Travoy for me is the hands down winner. It is easier to maneuver especially since I live in a high rise. I can get the bike and trailer in the elevator without a problem. The Yak was always a pain and a two trip operation. I have flipped the trailer once, 100% my fault. I loaded it with weight hanging off the side, going way to fast around a corner and then jumped off a curve. Amazingly I stayed upright and the even the hitch didn't break.

I use it as a shopping buggy in the grocery store and then pull it home by bike and sometimes I just take it with me without the bike. It is pricey and I always wonder how long the wheels are going to last being made of plastic instead of a spoked wheel of the Yak. I have never noticed the wind drag, I guess because I am pulling weight. I did buy it originally to pull behind my single speed but that got old fast. I went out and bought a second bike with multiple gears to pull the trailer. All in all a great trailer.
