Saw a double trailer setup today (pics)...
...at the library. didn't see the dude/dudette. could have been a street person, but in my 'hood nothing is certain. bike is a schwinn, model nomenclature rubbed off. bike train?

Saw one like that in Iowa City a couple of years back, the guy was trolling the trash bins for cans and bottles. We gave him a bunch...Iowa has a nickel a can/bottle, NC doesn't...we never thought about turning them in.

That is seen from time to time in Madison, a bicycle-friendly city. It's usually a homeless person, a scraper, or someone who lives in one part of town but has two jobs in a different part of town. There's certainly nothing wrong with any of that, I guess those with more financial means buy a utility bike.

I've done something similar many times. Either a trail-a-bike towing a kid trailer or a BAW 64A towing the kid trailer converted to a utility trailer. This setup works very well, and adds a couple hundred pounds to the weight I can pull (eg, the BAW 64A will hold 300 to 350 pounds, and the kid trailer ~200 more).

I wish that I had a picture. Years ago, our daughter was big enough for a trail-a-bike, but, the boy still needed to be in the Winchester. So, there were a lot of grocery trips and big Rides where I would tow them both as a road train.
We live on level ground so braking issues were only about straight line stopping power.

That's my friend Richard and his family! That Greenspeed tandem trike was the first one built that comes apart (via S&S couplers), which allows it to be used as a tandem or single. It also packs down into two travel bags. The trail-a-trike has gearing and can fit large and small. Richard needed to weld up a custom rear rack for it to tow either their Chariot trailer or the WeeHoo shown here. More at his website.
