Now THIS is a utility bike!

A super duper heavy duty Japanese bike from a long time ago:

Heavy duty everything. It's even got its own built-in trailer hitch!

My God, look at the QUALITY of materials and workmanship there. That's what Worksman should have been. No diss on Worksman intended.

The Felt Cafe 8 is a prettly nice modern medium duty utility bike with 700c wheels. 19 3/4" chainstay, 45 3/4" wheelbase.

Aluminum frame...

I would consider this the modern incarnation.

Or if you are looking for less expensive the Torker Big T.

Aaron :)

Absolutely

Maybe I should start thinking about building bicycles like this... :)

My first response was, "that looks just like the bike that the mailman uses in the animated movie My Neighbor Totoro" (which is set in Japan in the 1950s). Every time I see that movie I admire that bike, even if it is just a cartoon. It just seems like a more solid version of a dutch city bike.

And the real-life Totoro house has one that looks almost identical

Meh. I'll stick with the Keener 36er. ;)

The Japanese version of the famous Dutch Opa utility bike.

At 50 lbs, they're heavy but built tough for a serious purpose - load hauling! Before any one ever invented the Xtracycle *** longtail cargo bike.
