Wald rear carrier basket questions
I'm now considering a set of rear carrier baskets as possibly a better choice for my needs than a front basket, especially since the top platform can double as a sort of rear rack. I think something like the Wald 520 might fit the bill, but I'm wondering:
1. Will the baskets interfere with gearing at all? (I keep seeing pics of these mounted on single-speed cruisers, but not on multi-geared bikes....)
2. Would my risk of heel strike and other issues increase if I decided to go bigger, like a Wald 535?

I have the folding Walds. 582, I think. I use them both or one at a time according to the load, even though I do have a front basket. The front is just to put some weight up front when both back baskets are loaded. No, interference with any mechanical things (rim brakes, I have no idea about disc).
I have to have them mounted quite far back on the rack to prevent heel strike. As Tractor said, it all depends on the bike. Mine is a MTB frame.
The PedalRoom link in my sig has pictures of the thing loaded.

If you do not already have a rear rack the Wald 520 Rear Twin Bicycle Carrier Basket is a fine choice if your frame is long enough. Most are. Link below has good prices and free shipping in most cases.

I went with the Wald 582 folding to give me the choice of 1 or 2 or no baskets and so far (2 years) they work great. I had a rear rack I picked up at a yard sale I put on. They look like they will mount to almost any rack. I ride a 80s MTB, not a large frame. Something to think about. Check them out, full specs and prices at link below.

Ride safe and good luck.

In the end, I went with cloth instead of wire. Giant City Pannier Bag attached to Blackburn EX-1 rack. The twin carrier bags are shaped to avoid heel strike, and the whole things straps onto the rack with so many top AND side Velcro loops that I can't imagine any thief having the infinite patience needed to remove them. (Hey, at least they're on nice and tight.) Also, they're reasonably light and skinny (when empty).
