The 2011 Tour de Perogy - September 11th

I am little late in posting this reminder but wanted people to know that on Sunday, September the 11th we will be staging the 5th annual Tour de Perogy. Many people booked heir calendar for this last year as it is such a fun ride.

This is a sociable ride that goes from Edmonton to the Ukrainian Heritage Village which is 50km from Edmtonton as the crow flies but our back road country route extends the distance to 72 km (one way) for a total ride distance of 142km.

On this day the Heritage Village celebrates it's annual Harvest festival so besides being able to tour this historical site there will be many more displays and an abundance of vendors selling food, including perogies.

This is one of the most amazing places in Alberta

Riders need to be self supported and advise that although any bike can be ridden (and has) that a road or touring bike seems to be the preferred choice and should be in sound mechanical shape.

Ensure that you have adequate water (2 litres) and bring your choice of road fuel.

One should bring rain gear... just in case the skies open up and this has happened on previous ride.

Ride time each way should be 3 - 3.5 hours in what i hope is calm weather and we will take a few breaks along the way, the pace is moderate and it already looks like we will have a great turnout.

Our start point will be the Route 99 Diner and if you show up early you can grab one of the best breakfasts in the city, we plan to depart at 8:00 - 8:30 am and should be returning by 8:00 pm although weather may affect that.

A few of us might ride some vintage road bikes and if you have such a machine we would love to see that... the route is relatively flat and I have ridden this route on a fixed gear, folder, and on my touring bikes.

The simple details:

Date: September 11th
Time: 8:am
Start: Route 99 Diner @ 8820 99 Street Edmonton
Destination: Ukrainian heritage Village
Distance: 142 km
Cost: The ride is free but riders must be responsible to cover their admission and food costs at the park.

Admission at the park is $9.00 and we will likely get a 15% discount for a group of 15 or more riders.

This is really one of the best rides of the season... through the past five years we have seen more and more participants and the company is great, the food is delicious, and hope that this year will be even bigger and better than ever.

Added note: Will be able to provide mechanical support (limited) and would ask that everyone brings their own flat kit to account for different tyre / tube sizes.
