South Fraser Perimeter Road
 

Has anyone used this new route to connect between the ferry terminal and the Golden Ears Bridge? If so how was it to ride? I have driven along it, and it appears to have a decent shoulder, and lots of cycling signs but, the true test is to ride it.

Really interested in this as well... May find some new routes for myself here.

I've ridden it east bound, starting just after the Patullo. The shoulder is plenty big. Meeting up with the Golden Ears Bridge isn't the best (you have to cut onto 96ave for a bit), but still the SFPR is an awesome way to get out that far with limited traffic and basically 1 stop light.

How did you manage to get off the SFPR and onto 96th? I drove along the road on the weekend and could not see any cycling signs indicating how to get further east from where the highway begins to climb the hill towards the Trans Canada Highway. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and could not stop to explore. Did you cycle up and over the TCH and then onto 96th/Golden Ears way or did you manage to do something at the bottom of the hill by going east on 104th?

Just had a chance to drive part of this route. I was particularly interested in the end of the route near Langley. Specifically I wanted to check out the possibility of connecting to the Golden Ears Bridge. Just before the route begins to climb up to the Trans Canada Highway I turned left on 104th Ave. Just before the railroad tracks I turned right on Daly. They are already working on the planned connection of the South Perimeter Road directly to the Golden Ears Bridge. I could only drive as far as 179th St. There I was met by a flagger working for the road construction company. She said there was no way through alongside the proposed new road. Once it is completed in 2017 there should be a bike path. As it now stands there is a reasonable route to the bridge.

On a bike you go up 179th to Barnston. It is somewhat steep but less than a kilometre in length. But I think it is much safer and frankly easier than trying to ride up on Highway 17/15, over Highway 1 to Golden Ears Way (GEW). Once on Barnston you have to go east, crossing over GEW, until you reach the stop sign on 96th. Turn left (even though right is downhill and heading towards the bridge) because once you get to GEW (about 300m away) there is a very nice bike path beside the road. Ride this path for about 2.3km until it veers right onto Telegraph Trail. At the stop sign turn left and go under the GEW. Turn right on 98b. You then weave thru an industrial area until you get to a stop sign where you turn right on 199b St and then 200m later turn left on 100 Ave. About 200m down 100th Ave there is the bike ramp up to the sidewalk bike path over the Golden Ears Bridge.

I rode it last week from 72 street/HWY 10/Ladner Trunk area in Delta all the way around surrey and up and over HWY 1, hung a left on 96th, left onto 208 and all around Fort Langley. It was a nice ride and not too many cars. For whatever reason I really liked riding on the sections that have the special quiet asphalt, I felt faster on it but I'm also sure it was all in my mind.

Sorry Norsman, sorta dropped off the map for a while there. But the way I got to Golden Ears Bridge was to continue on Hwy17 to 96th/Golden Ears Way, and take GEW bike bath/road towards the bridge. At around 195 st, there is an exit (or it could even be the end of the bike path) onto Telegraph Trail. I follow Telegraph and it meets with 96th ave. Go down 96th to 201st, continue on 201 past the car on-ramp and you come up to the bike/walking ramp onto Golden Ears Bridge - voila :P

I think I like your route better, staying away from a lot of the traffic is definitely a plus
