winter clothing keeping the chap happy

back in feb this year i started to road ride in slightly colder weather here in the uk
i had on bib thermals on and pair of normal lycra shorts over the top on colder days.

but i seeming couldn't keep little nos and the twins happy and warm, are there padless shorts i can purchase to go over my thermals to deflect the cold wind flow around there?

My hiking pants and MTB shorts made of nylon do just that. No wind go through. My MTB short is from Louis Garneau and comes with removable pads.

Not sure of the temps around UK; but here in the northern part of the US -
I wear thermal bib pants under a windproof/snowproof pants when it gets below freezing:

Layer up. Anything made for cold weather will do you...I use non-athletic-specific polartech tights, wolverine wool/synthetic blend socks, and a wool jersey made for yoga or something like that. The cycling-specific items I used in the winter were gel shorts, spd shoes/neoprene covers, helmet, windproof shell. The layering/insulating bits were all clearance rack, Wal-Mart and Marshall's specials. Kept me warm down to -15f wind chill. For gloves I used surplus cold weather lobster claws over Brooks running gloves.

You'll have a hard time keeping the nose cold and overcoming the following issues:

    Ventilation for breathing.
Condensation buildup on the inside of whatever mask/cover you use.

I would start out with a balaclava pulled up over the nose just to quickly get used to the cold but I had it pulled down by the end of the block.

Craft Beer, n: a term used by snobs who fancy pretending that they know what they're talking about.
