I guess I got mine just in time. They arrived last week. Performance says they still have all but size 47 in stock. I wonder what will show up next season.

The Lake 300/301s seem to be in short supply every winter. But they always reappear the next season. Check around at other stores and you may find the size you need.

They are nice and toasty, but developed knee pain each time after riding with them. Think it was b/c of restricted ankle movement and/or combo of these shoes w/ the mtn bike pedals (Crank Bros Candys which do have rotation). LBS says they will accept return. Have gone back to regular road shoes, booties and now using Grabber toe warmers (chemical heaters) which works well so far.

I'm guessing they make one run of the shoes before the season and when the warehouses run out of your size you have to wait to next year. I finally worked up the funds to buy a Lake MXZ30x only to find nobody seems to have a 48 in either style any more.
I'll make sure I get my order in early next year.

yeah I could probably find a pair of 47s somewhere, but not for the same price.. with the discount at airbomb I paid $180 including shipping.. and I thought that was too much..the reason I was going for 301s over 300s was for easy of entry because I'm nursing a broken fibula.. now that I'm into the 12th week of recovery anyway, and the winter is not that bad, I'll hold out and just keep using road shoes and booties until better prices are available.. now if prices drop near end of winter I may spring....if i can find a pair..

I picked up a pair of new condition Lake MXZ 300's on ebay a few weeks ago for $75. We too are having a very mild winter so I can't give them a throrough review in terms of temps. The coldest i have worn them in is 22 F and i ride viritually every day. But i ain't complaining.

I too, have noticed some right knee pain while wearing these. This is unusual because i have ridden thousands of miles with other combos with no trouble. I am sure it is related to these shoes. On warmer days with normal shoes, i have no pain.

Still they are pretty nice for what they are. They give you a clipless shoe that can be warn in colder temps than normal. But there is a lot of room for improvement with them. I would never spend $199 on them. They aren't that good.

Here's a Silly Question: "Have you adjusted, readjusted, and yet readjusted the Cleat?"

I know it seemed like it took me forever to find the "right" position of the Cleats. Once you find it, never a problem here.

I've been using them for a couple of weeks. I've almost got them adjusted right. I may need to get some arch supports to get them just right.

I got em!... weee... but I think I have to send them back.. too narrow.. my left is wider than my right.. and the right says keep em.. but the left is sayin you gotta be kidding me, the heel box is almost as wide as the toe box... I know they will stretch some, but I have bones joining the fracas now, saying this is more than just a minor discomfort we can stretch thu.. I'm shocked that the 47s are not all all big, so much for the one size bigger...but I don't think I would go 48s.. enough left in the toe end, but not wide enough for thick socks.. I'll argue with myself the rest of the night and see what happens tomorrow..

I have the 300s and think they are fine. No knee issues at all. I keep the laces tied loose enough that I can wedge my foot in and only have to velcro to keep it closed. No issues. Warm down to about 10F or so for long rides, but fine at 0F for my short 5 mile commute. I got mine at lickbike last year and have been very happy. I think they still have some 300s in stock but they also have the 301s. (I'm not affiliated with them).

You may want to try what I've done. I've removed the laces all together with no negative issues. Give it a shot on one ride and I'll bet that you'll leave them off for good.

In that case, perhaps you should get the 48s and just use 3 pairs of socks on the right instead of 2.

I know ALL of us with wide feet are dissapointed in the offerings. I would hope that they would at least offer something in between.

I am wearing the Answer shoes one size too big (48s). They soles are quite narrow, but there is enough "material" there that you can fit your width into the shoe with extra socks. The is TOO long in that configuration, but I figured out that I could add neoprene ankle supports to keep the heel from slipping excessively.

yeah I'm going to bail out and send them back.. I'm going to head in another direction using a bootie over an SPD touring shoe by Diadorra. The touring shoe I will use is big enough to fit heavier socks under and that and the bootie will give me as much warmth as the Lakes I expect. The liner in the Lakes was not as thick as I had hoped.. I still can't beleive anybody can make a boot that long and that narrow.. they clearly are on the narrow side for the bulk of us. Even someone with a slightly narrow foot would appreciate a little more width to fit heavier socks in etc.. too bad because they would be a great boot if they came wide... tho I think I would still need a bootie for extreme cold days etc..or just add heated socks..

regular MTB shoes with neoprene booties are adequate down into the teens, I've worn them below zero for moderate distances. But you must have a really wide foot if you can't fit into the Lake's, I'm certain that I'm at least a double E width and my 11.5/12 feet fits perfectly into Lake 300 size 47s with heavy socks. I think the Lakes are overkill unless you are riding in temps below 20F, booties/overshoes are totally practical for most winter riders.

I'm no more than an EE width, probably more like E.. it's just too right.. they are very narrow even to just look at. I don't think you would have to have a very wide foot to get into trouble with this fit.. and they don't look anywarmer to me than my bootie/road shoe cominbation except that the road shoes I used are too snug for thick socks etc... If/when they make a wide I will pick up a pair, until then I will improvise..
