Colorado Freezer - Cheyenne Canyon (Pics)
With temps hanging in the single digits (7 degrees F)...it's a wonder I was able to convince anyone to come out for the ride. It was a spectacular day, slightly cloudy with brilliant sunshine and Colorado deep blue skies.
Tony aka "Cable Guy" and Todd aka "Rollo" joined me on this beautiful and frigid epic day. Suiting up: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0001.JPG Yours truly: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0002.JPG Finished climbing The Chutes, starting the grind up Goldcamp Road - we're just about the same altitude as the temprature inversion layer. http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0003.JPG "Who's idea was this anyhow"? http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0004.JPG Climbing a few miles up Goldcamp Road: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0005.JPG Cable Guy and Rollo with frozen boogers: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0006.JPG There's only one way...right? http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODEPray.jpg Looking back down Cheyenne Canyon: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0007.JPG Top of High Drive, about to attack Captain Jacks: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0008.JPG Northside exposure on Captain Jacks was cool and snowbound, but still rideable: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0009.JPG The bright sun and blue skies in the pics hide the fact that it was below 10 degree Fahrenheit: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0010.JPG Trademark over the shoulder money shot: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0011.JPG http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0012.JPG http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0013.JPG Colorado deep blue skies: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0014.JPG Cheyenne Mountain: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0015.JPG And the trail goes down: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0016.JPG Gregger style over the bars money shot: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0017.JPG http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0018.JPG That's me bombing down the trail looking for trouble: http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0019.JPG ...and I found it. Overcooked a corner, left the bike on the trail and slid 20ft down the sidehill until Mr. Tree abrubptly stopped my slide. http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/CSODE0021.JPG One more...a panorama looking north over Colorado Springs from the northside of Captain Jacks (click the image for full size): http://www.csbomb.com/images/2006CSODE/ODEPan_small.jpg |
Awesome pictures! I'd be right there with you, if I was there, that is. Would have to add a balaclava and pogies though. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome pictures man! looks like fun

Wow, I was riding around Fort Collins on Saturday, and that was frigid. Can't imagine what it was like up another 2000 feet.
|
Climbing 2,000ft vertical on the way up kept us plenty warm...started to get a bit nippy on any exposed skin on the way back down.
|
Nice pictures.
Brrr. For me, riding in the 30s is cold. |
Great shots! What kind of camera? For the over-the-bar-shots, were you just holding it there, or some kind of neck strap?
|
It's a cheap-o Casio QVR-40. Basic point and shoot 4meg digi-cam. It's small and handy though. I zip tie a cell phone case to the shoulder strap on my hydration pack (the case sits just below my left collar bone) so the camera is always quickly accessible.
The over the bar and over the shoulder shots just take a little balance and practice...with digital of course you can practice and fire away until you get it right. The more technical/bumpy the trail gets - of course the more difficult it gets to pull off the shots! I almost fell right after that over the shoulder shot. |
The mountains look stunning. Great pictures.
