Wat is your slowest ride?
 

Usually, in winter, my 6 mile ride takes 25 minutes, on city streets, but during a big storm, last night, here in Minneapolis, it took 1.5 hours. I hefted the bike over my head, rather than push through thick snow, the last 2 blocks.

Wow, you were out riding last night?! But, I guess carrying a bicycle overhead through snow drifts isn't technically "riding".

All I heard about earlier this week was about the big blizzard coming, so I cranked as many miles as I could before the storm hit. Friday late afternoon I got in 32 miles in spitting snowflakes, so I could justify watching DVDs all weekend. ;)

I think we got 2 feet of the fluffy white stuff this weekend.

Apparently my cycle club has a "Slow Race" as part of their A-SIG training series, in which a fairly short course is laid out and the winner is the *last* one across the finish line. Not sure if there are any specific rules or caveats; figured I'd learn to trackstand on my road bike just in case that's allowed!

I have a 12.5 mile ride to school.

Summer speed record is ~36-37 minutes (no books, just tools and a notebook). (fixed wheel running 85 gear inches, pushing my limits).

Winter record slow was 2+ hours. 2' of snow across the two mile long bridge pathway from Duluth, MN to Superior, WI. 30 pound mtb bike with 15 pounds of textbooks, plus extra layers, shoes, gym climbing bag, food, water.

Don't kids skip classes anymore?

Thinking that we were going to have a repeat of this past weekend, I left 2 hrs to get to work during the March 1 blizzard, but I was almost there after 40 mins, so I was able to stop to read and drink a cup of coffee. I suppose that I'm not that avid of a cyclist, because I didn't tool around the greenway, in whiteout conditions. I imagine that the return trip, at midnight, will be much more grooling. If I beat my slow time, I'll let you know.

It took me 52-57 minutes every day for a week to do my 5-mile ride to class. Weather was perfect, traffic was light. My right foot was wrapped up and I was pedaling with only the lonely.

yesterday took me 20min to cover 2+km... i was falling asleep on the bike. ended off the road a few times.

Summer record is around 10min, or less, now that i got a road bike i should try it again.

2.1" knobbies + 5-8 inches of heavy, wet snow = slow going!

In dry road conditions, my 4 miles to school takes about 18 minutes with the same tyres. That's rolling time on the cyclecomputer, by the way.

Just over a week ago, huge amounts of snow fell in just one night. My commute that day took 33 minutes (again, rolling time)!

I'm usually the fastest out there (not because I'm really the fastest, but because I'm the only one who thinks every commute is a TT... :D ) but this time, I saw myself being passed by almost all other riders. And all of them had the regular, narrower semi-slicks typically found on commuter bikes. Their tyres cut through the slush down to the road surface, and they could ride relatively unhindered, while my fat tyres floated up on the snow, making my ride very unstable. The smallest ridge of snow would shift my front wheel to the side, or slow me down considerably.

I spent a total of 70 minutes (including time waiting for lights/traffic) going 8 miles that day. What's that? An average of 6.9 mph! :D

Next year, I'm getting narrow semi-slicks for winter riding, but still studded of course.

Since the bus company and I had very different opinions on bus-prices this winter, I had to ride my bike to school. 7 kilometers, -20 degrees C, 15 cm of snow on the road and dense snow whipping me in the eyes.. In summer this distance takes about 20 minutes for me, but with 15 cm of snow to plow through it took about 45 minutes. I was possibly more sweaty than i would be after any mountain-climb in summer and really worn out. But i guess i sat the record of an amateur riding a bike with 2.10" tires through 15 cm of snow on a 7 km distance 7 AM :D (Oh, yeah, and the tires were worn, so i didn't have grip at all)

Ah, Norway. Don't expect them to plow the snow from the road before cars get stuck on their axels.

Yey finalnd! summer just hit us. They cleared a few roads from those stupid little rocks! And i have my summer tire on (rear) i need to buy one for the front. SOOO much faster!
