I may be asking for trouble using a dept store fs in winter, but that's what I had available. I'll see how things work out, and let the chips fall where they may.

Just went out for my first snow ride ever today and it was a blast.
Need some full fenders for it because I intend to use this bike (with the slick tires I have) as my year-round rain/crap weather bike as to not get my road bike all in a mess

No winter tires or anything...I might get some, I might not...I'm right off the main road that's well plowed, and I don't go out till it gets plowed.

2009 Felt TK3 with 48/15 gearing
Dura Ace brake levers connected to a FSA rear brake
Deep V rear machined wheel
I love it and it serves its purpose very well for me......its usually 25* with wind chill in the single digits. Gladly no snow! just ice

My two winter rides. Both mtb, both fixed gear.
Basic specs, old Wheeler mtb, , 42/16, snowstud front, crappy innova studded rear, knockoff mary bars, homemade powergrips...used for icy days.
Motobecane outcast...46/16, cx pro cross tires, brooks, easton bars, post, homemade powergrips...used for dry/slushy/wet, well anything thats not icy or 2-3 inches of cruddy chopped snow. Still need to swap the fender as the green bike is my rain ride rest of year.

That's how my winter bike (Louis Garneau, click on image for a closer look) looks like. It's not a singlespeed, all the gears are located in the centre of the wheel, protected from the slush, salt, sand. That means that the cogs never get jammed with snow or ice. Front and rear brakes are also sealed in the the centers of the wheels. Those are disk brakes. Braking is not as harsh as with regular ones, which is helpful on ice/snow. This bike has been made to be used in winter. It's weight is more than 40 lbs (18 kg), but sticks to the road thanks to the studded tires (which come with the bike).
I have a 23 km (14 mile) round trip commute in the city of Quebec (avg snow : 140 inches per winter), so this how I look like, wether it be -30°C or 0°C.
