Update on my bike, it's now a 1x9er. and the shop kept the front der on. what would be the chances of the jain jumping off if i removed it? or is it there in case the chain jumps off the chainring?

Nitto Albatross bars. Pretty much English 3-speed bars, but flipped... I taped the bends because I tend to use them a lot...

The bike originally came as a standard hybrid and I didn't like the high-rise bars. Saved the grip shifter and levers, though.

I feel rather sheepish posting pictures of a Trek 3700 lol it's as basic as they come. But I've stripped all the components off of it and created a nice (and heavy) winter assault singlespeed bike. Contemplating Studded tires, my Maxxis Holy's are not meant for snow and ice. Not the best pictures either but they'll suffice.

This is my winter bike, I took the high road and went for a higher priced bike in hopes that the quality body and components would last better than the ones on a beater. So far so good...

I'm usually in the Classic & Vintage forum, but I'm also a year-round commuter, so I thought I'd share here as well:

My 1998 Gary Fisher Marlin. I got this bike off CL for $40. It was barely used, one of those "it just sat in the garage for years" bikes. I treated it with Weigle's Frame Saver, then gave it a more upright stem, better pedals, fenders, and studded tires for winter commuting.

Here's my new winter beater. Innova studded tires, nitto moustache bars, formula/salsa delgado rear wheel, front wheel from a busted hybrid, fork from a bent bianchi cyclocross bike. I need to make a few minor changes, but I like it so far.

^I love that, I'm riding an old Schwinn fixed conversion too. atrue beater, its ugly, but hot, I need something like that. Its hella fun. I have been playing with it on the ice in my alley all night. I hooked it up to the trailer, and brought home a christmas tree. I then proceeded to play with it, with a 50lb box on top of the trailer. At one point, I got the rig up to 20mph on ice, stupid me, locked up the rear wheel with my legs on the ice. The trailer jack knifed and proceeded to drag me in reverse for a moment, then it slip around about 230 degrees into a fence...It was fun though.. BTW I run 23c slicks.

wow, three ****ty schwinns in a row. I can't believe how heavy mine is with the fenders and studded tires. It's not nearly as bad as an electroforged varsity, but it's still a tank. It's getting me to work though, and I don't have any reservations whatsoever about leaving it outside all winter.

I got this in high hopes of it being my winter ride. Now I don't wanna take it in the snow because I'm afraid it will die! Completely stock, only thing I might replace is the wheel set, they are a little floppy for my taste. And yes, it's a 29er, wooo!

I tried riding once last winter on a bike with some fairly flat tires - I needed to get to the store quick and thought I'd give it a shot. It worked way better than I expected and I filed that away in the back of my mind for this year... I see some really nice bikes posted here, so this one is a bit of a deviance from that.
The roads are heavily salted here in Ottawa, so I did not want to destroy nice gear - I took the lowest quality parts and frame in my collection, slapped some knobby tires and fenders on it and condemned it to it's fate.

Sorry the picture is so small, all I had was my cell-phone to take a picture, but felt like sharing.

The frame is a SportTek Ridge Runner, component set is Falcon. It's basically a department store bike. They where nice enough to put double mount points on the rear for a fender and a rack, but neglected to include the upper braze-on's which means I'll need to built up an adapter for the racks I have, so there's none there. There's yellow PVC tape over the chain stay because it already had scrapes and rust, so I figured it may survive the elements better with a little protection.
