DIY studded tires on slicks or semi slicks?
i am going to be in need of studded tires this winter as i am working as a bike messenger .......problem is that i dont have much tire clearance. i figure i can fit up to about 28c tires. was aondering if anyone has ever attempted making studded tires with smaller width tires without knobs. is this possible? i dont need really long studs for snow, just enough sticking out to not slip on ice patches....

I think without some thick knobs or tough material bordering your screws, you'll end up ripping up the tire pretty fast. Unfortunately, there aren't any options at 28c for studded tires, so you'll have to try the DIY if you really want them.
Can you find tires with a kevlar band or something of the sort in them at that width? If you can't find tires with knobs to put the screws through, finding tougher tires is probably your next best bet. Good luck!
