Cylceops Mag + Issue

I bought a Mag+ last year (the one with the adjustable resistance) and used it a few times, with the intention of really getting some work done on it this winter. I recently bought one of the CTS DVDs and had a great time going through the workout.

The issue I had was with the mag trainer set to the most difficult position and using my largest gears - 52/11, it wasn't as much of a work out as it appeared to be for those on the film. And I'm not that good. It wasn't easy, but the riders on the screen really were working were as I seemed to have it easy.

Could there be a problem with my trainer - it does seem to make a lot of noise and the manufacturer's website indicates that it is supposed to be very quiet.

Any thoughts - do I have a bad trainer or should I be looking at one of these new fluid units???
Anyone had similar experiences??

I am having similar problems with my trainer.

It's a cheapo Supergo Aeron Mag that i got for $55. I have to set it to the hardest setting and use the big ring in front and the smallest one in the back. Even that way it's not that much of a workout.

Oh yea it also eats rear tires like crazy.

I'll second that - before I knew what was going on, I had put a flat spot on a Gator Skin... Killer way to trash a good tire. Now I am running the stock tires that came on the bike and when I trash those, I'll work on some other used tire....

I thought I might try rollers, but I'm uncertain if they can provide resistance. I've heard good things about the fluid trainers, I just have to evaluate the return on my investment.

I will probably see what Cycleops has to say about it...
