Do you miss the winter riding season?
I do. To some extent. Winter was shorter and much nicer in the Badger state this season making for outstanding cold season riding.
NO double file riders in winter.. NO trail 'terrors' to deal with... NO bikie's riding center lane.. angering the motorists. List goes on...........
I averaged around 300 mi a month in the cold season.. this with missing 2-3 weeks with my usual chest cold.
Summer is great.. spring came early this yr too. But winter isn't the dreaded season now with the bike rides.

I hear ya on the lesser populated trails and bike lanes but other than that I do not miss the winter at all. I'm actually easily too warm but I love daylight. My favorite time of the year is coming to an end (spring). I'm not crazy about the heat of summer but at least you can head out in the evening when it's cooler or real early in the morning as both ends of the day are long. I don't have much of a problem with the cold in the winter but I do like having less on when I ride.
With that being said, if all winters were like the past one I wouldn't complain. March was like May here in SE PA.

Hmm, cold weather, unplowed road shoulders, ice, salt, plow trucks driving less than a foot from me, almost always riding in the dark, I think I am fine with summer

So you sit and grow your tire all winter? Missing much..... the bike is a 365 day opportunity. Winter too is just state of mind... the many stay indoors whining and waiting for 'good' weather. Most of those migrate to FL and waste away.

We have had several relatively mild winters here in a row and I have spent good parts of each in warmer climates... I do not handle extreme heat very well and prefer our spring and fall to every other season although winter does not bother me and I can always find shade in the summer.

Winters in this part of Australia are very much like lower mainland BC winters. Very chilly and rainy with lots of fog, frost, and a bit of snow now and then.
But combine that with the fact that houses and businesses are not well insulated, and you've got some very chilly living and working conditions. Living on the Canadian prairies, I was never as cold indoors as I have been here. A small split system just doesn't do it in many cases.
So remember what it was like when it was dropping to 0C overnight ... and imagine living in that temperature in an uninsulated shed.

You'd be surprised.

One of the reasons is that it doesn't look cold out there. If there were 3 feet of snow on the ground, it would look cold. It's often gloomy and overcast, but everything is bright green. Flowers are still blooming. So I head out the door to walk to work in a light jacket ... and halfway there, I'm frozen.
But then I realise that if it were 0C in Canada, I wouldn't be walking to work in a light jacket. I'd have the sense to put on something warmer. But I get caught out here because it doesn't look that cold.

I miss winter, the crazy looks I get from drivers, the exciting feeling you get thinking mother nature isn't going to stop you from riding your bike, riding at night, less traffic, and the sound of snow being crushed by my tires. I've rode in winter for 3 years in Wisconsin every year was a little bit better then the last till I moved to Indiana. Now I deal with traffic and less then ok bike routes on way to and from work. If I ever get the chance I'm moving back. Bad encounters with drivers in WI 0 for 3 years. Bad encounters in IN at least 2 a day.

Yes for the most part the Wis driver is very bike friendly. Kudos for riding in harsher cond's... I ride only 'clean' roads winter. Mostly.. cars otta control go where they must go. Hence I stay home bad rds.
SCHOOL buses in Wis.. is another driver entirely. I just quit riding where the problematic moron's hauling the kids where. Worst.. by miles.

Uh, no, there's no longing for winter riding, and that's with facing 95F and tropical dew points starting tomorrow. I'm appreciating the minimal logistics these days: shorts and jersey and water and go! No "what to wear in the morning and again for the afternoon commute," lights and battery charging, increased maintenance, questionable roads, etc., etc.
