That looks like it would be fun. Too bad it rarely snows like that here in Atlanta.

You are correct Sir!

not to be a detail stickler, but that chain looks awful rusty. Anyway, night rides are a blast. I did one a little bit ago in a city park where they were having horse drawn carriage rides through the park to look at Christmas lights. Talk about the funny looks, as a bunch of guys in tights on mountain bikes with lights strapped to their heads goes riding by. Oh, and it was about 20 degrees out, adding to their confusion.

One of my favourite parts of winter riding are the trips through the woods. I often do these trips in the dark with lights. Most of the time I ride around 6 or 7 o'clock at night on the way home so I met the rare person walking their dog or someone just taking a second to have a peaceful moment by themselves.

One ride that comes to mind was one I did about 3 years ago at 2 o'clock in the morning. It was well around -15 celsius but the river hadn't frozen over completely yet. I recall going by a flock of geese that were hidden in the woods near the river. As they heard me coming they took off and landed in the water. I can still vividly recall the sound of one particular goose "yelling" at me as I went by. He/She wasn't pleased AT ALL with their cold awakening.

Of course this was later balanced off by the sudden adrenaline rush of almost going swimming just before I reached the pavement for the last little bit home.

I'm fortunate in that I work until midnight. There is nothing more wonderful than riding on deserted streets and lakes with only the crunch of snow under tire.

Damn, I was hoping that nobody would notice! :D I neglected to wipe it down after my last ride, and that's what you get ... ugly! The simplicity of the single speed kept it going! She really needs a little work, I just can't bear to have her down. :)

Nice Pics , Riding in the Snow and Ice is awesome

Being thursday , means we were out Mt Biking . there were 4 of us tonight , Me , IF_rider , Steve_B and Ben-o .Steve_b and Ben-o had just gotten some studded snow tires so we made sure we found some ice !

But it was a Balmy 18 degrees when we started , but once we got moving we didn't feel cold anymore.

while we got ready to go , My son loves to come out and ride around with us till we leave he even rides up the hill with us be fore returning home and off to bed.

Awesome dude! I’ve ridden in snow yesterday on my MTB slicks. That was one dumb idea. Fell once, was ok though…

I noticed the camel pack.Does the "liquid" freeze on you? Looks like you're well geared up.Are you wearing a snow board helmet and winter bike shoes? Looks like you had fun, great pics.

Yes the Camel Back freezing is a problem , you have to remeber to blow the water back through the hose into the pack. and when the water level in the ballder get low it does start to freeze on you.

Actually that is not a Snowboard helmet , we find using BMX helmets is better in the winter, and duct tape covering what little venting they have.

Awesome pix, Splat! I'm waiting for the day when I'll be successful in convincing some of my mtb crew to ride with me in the snow so that I can get some action shots also.

Great stuff! :)

Yeah, I love my BMX helmet! No breezes on the head. Hey at least you have some protective gear on. If it keeps snowing, I'm sure more people will come out! Enjoy!
