2000 Cannondale F700 New Winter Ride

I found this bike on E-bay about a year ago from a Goodwill store in Washington state knowing it needed some work. How much I didn't know but it didn't look that bad in the action listed so I took a shot and bid on it and got it pretty cheap at about 150 bucks or so.

I open the box and my first thought was, oh I might have just really screwed up. It was clear this poor thing had been sitting for a very long time. You know the drill, rusted chain, junk cables/brakes/pedals, tweaked wheels ect. It did have hope and the Headshok still worked it also still had all of the original components to boot and so I tore it down and made my list. All cleaned up and put back together it looked like I just might have a pretty nice bike for winter. I even managed to salvage the front hydraulic disc brake and find NOS set up to rear disc brake set up and convert the rear over to hydraulic also. Install some fenders, a rear rack and some Hakkapeliitta W240 studded tires and I ended up with a very cool old ride for winter.

That is a great winter bike. I would love to find something like that. It has everything, studded tires, fenders and disk brakes, what more could you ask for. Nice job and nice build.

blakcloud: thanks... it did turn out better then I first thought it would when I first opened the box.

philkratz: You got a good deal on that bike. I've got more then that in mine after fixing it up plus the upgrades. I dig the color. My fenders are Plantbike cheapys but work well for what I use them for.

We got about 13" of snow a couple days ago so I had a chance to take it out for its first ride commute yesterday. These studded tires work so much better then the cheap ones I had last year on a different bike, there is just no comparison. The Headshok works great on the ice rutted roads we have right now too. Other then being slow going it was a lot of fun!

Cool ride.. well done.

My 'to be someday' winter rider is a C-dale M700 '94... if I can manage to part with the so heavy Schwinn Frontier that has served perfectly with nearly 3000 miles in the last salt season and now this winter. The M is in like new cond.. I built with 24H rims.. triplet in back. Essentially a new bike... if I can ever bare to use it winter I dunno. Set up as a road bike.. light and goes well.
