I have not done winter riding before last week. I hate the cold. Last week we had warmer weather and decided to ride. I tried it and now I love it. I don't commute as I have to work long hours(12's shift work) and would have to ride busy highways in the dark. I went out today to The Forks to ride the river trails. It was very nice and quiet. The trails are well kept and is no problem for riding. The bike I ride is an early track bike with fixed/fixed gears, no brakes, 28"(700) tires no studs. Gearing today was 45/20. It was a blast. I ride a lot at Birds Hill Park on the main road. Will be out again tomorrow, The Forks and Birds Hill Park.

Cool!

I lived in Winnipeg for 13 years ... just moved away at the end of September and am missing it a bit. I read this and my first thought was ... Oh, that's a good idea, I'll ride at Bird's Hill on the weekend . . . but I'm not there anymore.

Enjoy it!

I live in Regina and I biked through the winter for the first time this year, commuting about 45 minutes to work. I picked up some Nokian studded tires (the tungsten ones) and have really appreciated the extra traction when turning out of the deep ruts. Coldest ride was -39 C (wind chill -58 C).
