I've decided I need some sort of nefarious air warming device. I don't mind the cold, my lungs do:



Any practical luck with such? I'd really like to ride throughout the winter as much as I can...I bought some good bibs, I have the layers..I need to warm the air effectively..

I use something similar to that when the wind chill is below 0degF. Most of the time it just hangs around my neck because I find it makes my glasses fog up. Of Course I do not have the lung issues you speak of here. Take care of yourself and take it a little easier. Maybe you can get your lungs accustomed to the cold a little at a time. It would be awful to have to stop riding until it warms up.

Yeah, I'm a bit of an idiot and tend to just bull on through things. It doesn't help that two weeks ago was mild high 50s-60s and this last week it dropped to high 30s. This upcoming week is going to be hovering around the freezing point. Nevertheless if I can solve the problem with an air warming device that'll be peachy.

A merino neck tube works wonders for me when I pull it up over my mouth and nose.

Try this one instead, the filter help warming the cold air better, the metal part above the nose help with the fog up problem a little and the mask filter some air pollution (not much)

Yes, it does warm the air. You don't even need a thick one, just something to help you preheat and moisten the air (because it is the dry air that provokes the lungs).
If it's really thick, it will freeze simply because it will hold more moisture. But I have found the merino to be excellent in this regard. I have both a thicker one from Icebreaker, which is actually too thick, and a thin merino from Buff, which is longer, but thinner, which allows to choose one, two, or even three layers around my mouth/nose. I don't have a problem with fogging glasses either because there is more air going through the merino overall.

I wear a neoprene face guard when the temp gets below 10F. I do not wear my glasses with it because they fog up. If I need eye protection at those temps I wear goggles which don't let my breath in.

For warmer temps when my face gets intermittently cold I just use a fleece neck gaiter that I can pull up over my mouth and nose if needed. That thing definitely absorbs the moisture and turns into an icy mess.

I wear a fleece neck tube. It works great.
I too had glasses fogging up on me when covering my nose. I bought a pair of Giro brand ski goggles, clear lens, at "Dick's". They work great. My eyeballs no longer feel frozen, they don't fog up and I can cover my nose as needed.
